ATSC Support by Sundtek

Terrestrial television for the United States is finally a reality!

I am pleased to announce that Sundtek has supplied us with a functional and working ATSC solution for the United States, Canada, and other ATSC countries. The solution provided by Sundtek uses the novel approach of making the ATSC signal look like DVB-T signal to the receiver.

This ATSC solution performs excellent using the 2.1.4 Black Hole image, dated 2014-12-05. Some features such as scanning and EPG do not work at this time, but Sundtek is looking for solutions to these and other minor issues.

I would like to thank the efforts of the Black Hole personnel and others that have worked very hard to bring us an ATSC solution. The work and patience that was put forth to get us to this point is very much appreciated.

Attached are screenshots of local tv stations in Atlanta, Ga. U.S.A.

I'm happy to hrear this news and I'm happy to read ATSC countries now can use Vu+ box at 100% :)

We will continue study the manner to implement the use of standard ATSC devices into Vu+ boxes :)

angelofsky1980, can you add the american transponder frequencies to the DVB-T section?
This would also allow to scan the ATSC transponders automatically.
I think blackhole has another format, but it should be similar.

In our case
ATSC = 6MHz
ClearQAM64/256 = 7 or 8 MHz (both are ok)

As el bandido mentioned, we binary patch the ATSC stream to look like DVB-T so it works with the regular blackhole image and all the other ones.

I would add that the Sundtek ATSC device is 100 percent operational, and has all functions of a DVB-S2 tuner using BlackHole, but cannot scan without an ATSC table.

No Problem, most of that goes into our R&D and assembly department anyway and things will keep evolving (aside of that 19% vat doesn't apply to US orders). We won't force anyone to get it. And those who decide to buy will be supported as good as we can.

Too bad I will not pay 89 eu,a usb tuner.

You get what you pay for. I am very satisfied with mine and want to purchase another one.
The Sundtek ATSC usb is a 2015 model, and has more features than other ATSC sticks that I have seen. It is the only ATSC usb that is fully functional with VU+ that I know of. Best of luck finding something like this for a cheaper price! EB

Seems I remember somebody in Canada testing this device. ATSC is ATSC. The Atlanta, Ga. ATSC should be the same as Canadian ATSC.

Canada works fine.

The next step will be that you can connect the tuner to an Android box and stream it to your Vu+ (Enigma2 based settopbox).
Eg. put your Android receiver somewhere where you have a good signal and stream it via wireless lan to the settopbox.

Hi,

sorry to activate this old thread. I have a VU+ Duo from Germany and I am now in New York. How can i make this work? Do i need a USB reciver? Or can i just plug the antenna into the Duo?

thanks,

The Duo will not work on ATSC, so you will need to purchase the Sundtek ATSC usb tuner.
Other images besides BlackHole may support the Hauppauge 850 ATSC usb tuner. Research before you buy the Hauppauge tuner.
