There is another question on my mind. Now when we see a more defined split between OBH and BH with a separate Support forum for OBH, How will this influence the development of BlackHole image?
I know BH is very depended on the VU+ 3.0 core but seems like very little effort is put into the image anymore?
My biggest concern is that BH is going to fade away. I do like the OBH image but for me Blackhole is the flagship and the most well designed image for Vu+ STBs
Where OBH is a diverse image for many STBs not just Vu+
I see the good progress with OBH just hope that BH gets the same threatment and is evolved into the future as well

I agree and I think it's must not be a comfortable feeling to be liaised to a core that cannot be in complete control by a coder. To be (almost) totally dependent on the VU+ decisions, must be frustrating.
OBH surely offers a completely different freedom of developments.
Actually, I can't see any reasons to stay still and stuck at BH, poor in customization, poor in basic (although normal) functions for every other O.S.; with a menu completely mixed up and illogical.
Browsing folders, for instance is a pain in the ass; deciding how many rows I want to display in channel list, in Multigraphic EPG, is impossible. And the list may go on almost indefinitely.
The day vuplus code will made BH able of enrich itself of comfy features, I'll be happy to get back to my first love.

To do what? Apart from the fact there is probably nothing of the sort under OBH, what an info panel can tell you more than a personal experience? And it should be at least from the same box. But what can you really compare, there?
You have the chance of using OMB (open multiboot) to install another image in parallel. But don't do the usual mistake many user do: trying a complex environment as an image, a real operative system, just a few minutes, sometimes. It takes days to have about 60% of the knowledge of an image. Sometimes I still discover something I didn't know after 4 years...

Why not use another image if you are not happy with what OpenBh offers ?
I have an old VU+ Duo, not 2 or 4k.
It is happily running BH3.1.0
For these older boxes, is it worth going over to OpenBH?
I don't have much in the way of plug-ins, I've just put a 1TB drive in it, as there wasn't one when I got it.
I mainly use it for the UK FreeSat channels, and it works OK.

In fact it is a very dated and limited box in HW and SW This does not mean that the OBH image cannot be placed I have this box and I use it as a secondary box and for a couple of years now I have installed the OBH4.23 and I must say that it runs well

You can happily use OBH 4.4 in this box. The highest OBH version for it is, though, the 5.0 but I suggest you to try OBH 4.4 which is already much lighter than BH 3.1.0 and much more customisable.

with the OBH5.0 in flash that I also tried the box was constantly stuck, I had green screens all the time
I also tried the OBH5.0 in OMB with the OBH 4.4.23 in flash but even here I had several green screens so I gave up.
In conclusion, go with OBH 4.4.23 in flash and you will have no problems
