Best way to download from HTTP/FTP sites

Hello everyone.

I have an internet dedicated server, and I'd like to know what's the best way to download files found on it directly through my VU SOLO2.
I have both an FTP and an HTTP server running on it.

I'd like to find a way to connect to the server, and download files found on it.
Preferably, I'm looking for a download manager who can run in the background, and make multiple connections, in order to speed up the download process.
