Black Hole Vu+ Ultimo 1.7.0 Multiboot Full Backup​

There are 2 big news items in this Black Hole release.​

- Meoboot Version 1.0​

- Full Backup utility​

​

1) Meoboot version 1.0 is a NEW VERSION entirely recoded for kernel 3.1.1 images.​

This version of Meoboot is 50% faster than the old version and only compatible with images that share the new kernel 3.1.1.​

As you know the new kernel 3.1.1 based images have a new filesystem (Ubifs).​

Meoboot can extract a Ubifs filesystem and install a full image in about 4 minutes on Vu+ boxes and is much faster than old versions at startup.​

WARNING: THERE IS AN IMPORTANT CHANGE IN MEOBOOT 1.0: This version of Meoboot accepts images in USB.zip format and NOT in NFI format. This is because images in USB format are easier to find and much more readily available.​

WARNING2: This version of Meoboot accepts only 3.1.1 kernel based images.​

2) New Full Backup Utility.​

This new Black Hole utility will complete the Black Hole tools. You can find it in the main menu. The Black Hole Full Backup will allow you to backup all your images in the original USB.zip format. This means that after you make a backup you can restore it in it's entirety, you flash your set top box with your own backup.​

This new feature is based on the original script of Pedro_Newbie.​

This latest version of the Black Hole series has been entirely rewritten and improved in the code for maximum stability and performance.​

This last feature gives the possibility to various forums or communities to create their favorite EPG data files and load them into a web space.​

I have a (stupid?) question though.
The image name (Black HOle Vu+ Ultimo 1.7.0 Multiboot) means to me that it can be installed in multiboot but there is this warning that says otherwise further down in the image characteristics.

Can someone clarify ?

PS : sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm quite new in this world.

This means that with this image in flash you can with the help of
MeoBoot plugin (inside image )
install images on USB.

I installed this a couple of days ago and just like the beta releases, installation was quick and problem free for me. All my additional plugins installed without any green screens and all work correctly. Bootup time from the on/off switch on the rear panel takes less than 60 seconds.

In use, everything is VERY fast and so far, for me, everything works without fault. I am also liking mucho the Army Mood HD skin ( I love the vertical volume bar) and am using Sandman's excellent 28.2E VFD Picon Pack (thank you very much Sandman) which helps to make the box look as good as it performs.

With previous versions of Black Hole, backing up of settings and plugins has always been very hit or miss for me with most of my plugins requiring redownloading and setting up. So much so that I almost always preffered to start from scratch whenever I needed to reflash so I was interested to read about the new Full Backup Utility included with this version.

Having set the receiver up EXACTLY as I wanted it with this new image I thought I would put the new backup utility to the test. The backup operation took about 6 or 7 minutes and you are left with a USB image file in exactly the same format as if you were to manually download a new image from this site.

After copying the files onto my USB stick, I then set about "breaking" my box by deleting some of my plugin files and messing up my .cfg and .conf files from the hard disk.

Stuck the USB stick in the front panel, rebooted and waited. Fantastic - EVERYTHING was back EXACTLY as I had left it when I performed the backup. HDD and USB correctly mounted, ALL my plugins worked - config files back as they should be - brilliant. Tried breaking it again deleting/changing different things and again, the restore worked perfectly.

So thank you everyone who was involved in this new image - I am sure many of us don't appreciate all the hard work that goes into making this stuff as good as it is.

I did say that my experience with this new image was without problem, and it has been. The only thing that needs tweaking is a skin issue ( I think). The main setup menu allows the display of 11 entries. Add a twelth entry and that last entry is half displayed on the first page and correctly displayed on the next page (see attachments).



Didn't know if this was the right place to report that but didn't want to fill up the board with spurious posts!

Anyway - well done BH Team.

once you reboot, it will disappear from there but still be available via your plugins or green panel....

that will at least keep the main menu looking pretty
( you can also remove additional extensions like media player if you don't use it!)

Yep - that tidied things up for me - and I NEVER seem to want to change the Multiquickbutton setup once it is - um - setup!

I didn't see where to change that in media player though (and I ALWAYS get confused between the media player via the Main Menu and the media player via the playlist button!).

Yes - the VFD picons are most excellent! I guess the only thing I would experiment with is losing the progress bar and having the prog info text a bit bigger but like all things, it is a matter of taste. Hopefully I will have some time to start experimenting myself soon.

* download the above zip and extract the contents to the a fat formatted USB drive
* ensure the Ultimo is turned off and there are no other USB drives attached, then plug the USB drive into the front port (hidden inside the card flap)
* turn the Ultimo on and when the message flashes up, hit the '-' key to begin flashing unit
* turn unit off when finished message flashes up, remove USB drive and turn unit back on

Now the fun begins!
