can't download addons

hi all,

I am new to the satellite world and I just got myself a motorized system with a vu+solo2 preloaded with BH 1.7.9. My problem is that I cannot download addons (I want to download a channel list editor). When I goto addons and select e.g. latest 10 addons it stays "please wait connection in progress" for more than a minute and then a message appears "sorry, connection failed"

My network settings are good, and network apps (youtube/opera) work fine. is it possible that the addons are locked? and if so how can I unlock them?

When I spoke to the salesperson about this he said that he is not the one flashing the VU+ but he told me that the guy probably "locks those features so that nobody messes up the box". Now I have to wait until this guy talks to the other guy, etc etc.

Of course I taught of re-flashing the box but since its brand new I wouldn't want the salesman to tell me "you messed with it so you keep it" because unfortunately thats how they work where I live.
 
I shall rephrase my question whilst not breaking the rules.

does the blackhole full backup store also manually installed addons and their settings?
 
then the nameserver settings must be correct because network apps work.still cant understand how this guy blocked the addon downloads (which seems that ge did on purpose). since the flashing is completely reversible through backup i might give installing the new bh a try
 
i tried FTPing my vu+ box to copy some files however it seems that the password has been changed:mad: (telnet doesnt login either). shouldnt it be login:root and pass:(blank) ?

is there a way to check/reset the password? or its just that im using the wrong password?

If you forget the password there is nothing to do .... flash your box again.
 
sorry for bothering again but can't do a BH full backup, herse my story:

Formatted 8Gb pendrive with FAT32 but when I try to do a full backup it says that there is no device connected. if I go to personal backup and press setup again it says no device found.

However, if I goto menu>setup>software management>advanced options>choose backup location I can see my flashdrive and I can backup the selected files.

I can't understand why the "blackhole full backup" option is not finding the flashdrive :(
 
thanks for all your help all of the above worked like a charm including restoring the box to its original state. is there somewhere i can download a manual for blackhole? i tried google with no luck
 
just an update:
I got my vu+ replaced with a new (supposedly) untouched one... even though the salesperson insisted that they come from factory preloaded with a channel list (yep he's an idiot or just playing stupid) when I plugged it in it just hanged on the purple screen with "starting ... " on the display. I assume that this is the bootloader and as far as I've been told brand new boxes come with only the bootloader installed. I just flashed BH201 and it worked without any probs.

Depends on box, my arrived with original Vu+ image 20121220 (bought 23/12/2012). Thay also told me, that there isn't image installed, but it was.
