Direct access to Internal HDD ?

Ray Toal

Vu+ Newbie
Hello,

I would like to transfer some TS recordings on the internal HDD of my VU+ Uno to a PC for storage purposes before reformatting the HDD.

I want to clean up the HDD, reinstall BH 1.7.3, if necessary and then transfer the TS files back to the internal HDD

I could use FileZilla FTP but Is there any way to make a direct (hard) connection to the VU+ that would avoid possible transfer failures in FTP?

I also have a Toshiba laptop running Ubuntu Linux

Any thoughts appreciated

use samba, when this is setup you can map the VU+ HDD as an external drive from your PC and give it a drive letter, then you can access it from my computer as its then shown as another HDD on the PC itself.

Ian,

I got Samba on the linux laptop and I've done an smb.conf file for it

The laptop is connected directly to the VU+ with a Cat 5 crossover cable. There's no router in the link.

Can you tell me how to map the VU+ HDD. That's the part I cannot understand.

It's very likely my smb.conf is not 100% correct yet but I can try a few more edits on it

the samba file on the VU+ has to be configured to the internal ip of the laptop and also be in the same workgroup as the laptop.once this editing is done, its just a simple matter of mapping the drive from the PC
but i cannot help you to do this as im unfamiliar with the linux OS,with windows its as simple as selecting my computer, clicking on tools and selecting the option to map a network drive, windows then finds all drives in the same workgroup and you then simply assign it a drive letter thats unlikely ever to be used by the PC itself, such as Z

thats it your done

but with linux you will probably have to google how to do this.

sorry i cannot help you with the linux bit.

Ian,

Thank you for the information. You've been most helpful.
I didn't realise that the Samba "smb.conf" in the VU+ had to be configured as well.
I will download it from the VU+ and edit it when I get some more info on Google

Regards.
