E Sata hard disk on Vu Solo Se

Vu+ Newbie
I sold my Solo 2, going to buy the Solo se V2, i have the internal Sata hard disk from my Solo 2, i found Cable on Eaby called: Sata to E Sata, will this work with my hard disk so i can use on my new Solo se V2, or i need something else??, thanks!!!

The cable it's only for data. You need to power your HDD. If it's an external HDD with an esata port, it has its own power adapter. But if you want to connect an internal HDD (2,5" or 3,5") you need to power it. And, anyway, my experience with the esata with my Vu2duo is not exciting.

It is Internal disk, it was working very well on my vu solo 2, installed inside the box, now just thinking if i can use this as external disk? to power the hard disk yes true, but how do i do this??

Probably the best way is to find a USB-sata power cable, to take the power from a USB port or from a generic USB power adapter, but this is not a standard cable and I don't know if it exist.
Some years ago I made it myself using a USB cable and cutting it and the selding to a sata power cable.

I can find one of this cables on Ebay, sold from China Hong-Kong, lot of them around, but i did not wanted to use from USB port, i wanted from E Sata, but maybe that not possible,
USB 3.0 to 22Pin SATA 2.5" SSD HDD Hard Disk Drive Converter Adapter Cable
Thanks!!!

I found other one this may work on E Sata Directly: Dual Power eSATA USB 12V 5V Combo to 22Pin SATA USB Hard Disk Cable Adapter
Not sure now if they will work on vu solo se??

It says: Your desktop will have to support the Power eSATA 5V and 12V.
Is this the case with vu solo se E Sata connection??

I don't think so: power eSata is a different standard. Power eSata does not mean "sata power", that's the name of connectors used for internal HDD. Even my PC has got, as many todays, an external sata port but it is not a Power eSata port. This last is able to carry both power and data.
About your two products, as I cannot see the real result, I tried to google for them but, if I found the same ones you did, the first is just an interface from USB to sata and so you wouldn't use the eSata port but the USB (that's only USB2 on VU+, also!). The second is a power esata cable, useless as I said before.
As I wrote before, you just and only need (apart from the firs esata-sata cable) something to give also power to your HDD. I mentioned the USB only to suggest that you could use one USB port from the VU+ and only, I repeat, to take the 5V power.
I didn't find such a cable at the time, that's why, with the help of a good technician my friend, I made one myself.
You can find on Youtube a video looking for "Power a SATA 2,5'' hard disk drive with USB" BUT MY STRONG SUGGESTION IS: buy a box for HDD with external sata... it's much easier and safer.

And, by the way: if your HDD is a 3,5", no USB port will provide the needed power to it: only an external box or docking station will.

I ordered the: Dual Power eSATA USB 12V 5V Combo to 22Pin SATA USB Hard Disk Cable Adapter
just write above on Ebay Search and you will find it, i will test and see what happen it cost only 2.85$, so if it does not work not problem, my HDD is 2.5, it will work if the E Sata on Vu Solo se will power the HDD, if not, i will see further, Thanks!!!

It should be the same I got, and that's not from a China's ebay eseller but it's a professional one.
But, as I wrote, it is not the cable the problem but the fact that either my PC or the VU+ does not provide also power through the esata port.
I found out at my own expenses that there are two kind of eSata ports: the most common is not also powered, and the other one is (that's why is called "power esata"). I eventually realised that th only simple way is a box with also eSata ;)

I ordered and other type: 2.5 Inch Hard Disk Drive SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data + USB Powered Cable , this has the USB power is well, i will test booth, 99% this one will do because connect to the port of eSata and the Usb port to power the hard disk, i will write here for the results!!!

I know, but i believe in testing, from my experience you have to test everything, they may work or may not, we will see when i get them and test them!!!

2.5 Inch Hard Disk Drive SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data + USB Powered Cable, this one worked 100% on Vu Solo Se, Internal Hard Disk working as External Hard Disk, i bought Hard Disk holder is well, all great now, this way you can use your internal Hard Disk as External, below is the picture of item!!!m951wQFVzIXm1AJliRsBAsA.jpg

Yes, but it's the same if you simply buy an eSata box... At least is safer. I don't see the reason to buy a cable and then also what you name "holder" to do the same job of a box. Maybe all of this is more expensive than a box and surely less practical. ;)

No is not, 2.5 Inch Hard Disk Drive SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data + USB Powered Cable cost 2.66 $ and the Hard Disk Holder 0.74$, it is 100% safe, that why i bought the Holder, the eSata box cost 15$ and more!!!

But remember that each interface chipset has different performances, even if they are of the same kind (USB 2, USB 3, Firewire400, eSata, etc.). That's why, for instance, the external boxes don't have the same price and their performance tests are different. There are boxes that cost almost double the price of chinese cheapest ones and if you have (as I had) the chance of testing different boxes, you'll find out it. Anyway, if you're happy, 100% of the world is happy ;)
