Hours wasted trying to set up BH on Duo2

I've also tried using OpenVIX out of desperation to get something working. More success except that every 5 or so attempts at setting up an auto recording from the EPG (which I managed only to get working in a usable, logical, order just once.. its auto maker thing then disappeared) it crashes to the point of needing the power switch at the back.

I'm stuck - and there doesn't seem to be any kind of guide, set up info, or anything. Its been a frustrating mess.

Can someone also please let me know if the Duo2 box is supposed to randomly select other things, menus, etc while pressing the up/down keys on the remote? I'm begging to think the box, and/or the remote, is simply faulty and I should return it and get my money back.

Thanks in desperation,

Ashley

Apologies as it only seemed to want half my original post.
Duo2
Latest BH
Sat Tuners A,B,C (all set to 28.2E, set with Tuner A and then B & C to be the same)
Scans satellite and find channels, none of which are then viewable when you exit.
Have tried Open EPG, XMLEPG, EPG this, that and the other... none of which seem to produce and EPG when you press the EPG button. Just a list of blank items, no matter how many ways you update it. go into it, edit it, etc.

1001 ways of getting to the same thing is hardly helpful, or usable, in day-to-day operations.

Wondering if there is even a UK basic satellite FTA setup guide for BH. Or should I just try and stick with OpenVIX in the hope it doesn't keep crashing (at least I can view, and record, tv)

Not a happy so far, and its not a cheap box by any standards.

Cheers,

Ashley

When only few people (if any) have the same identical problem as you, if I were you I'd start thinking that I've made something wrong in my box.
Then before blaming I'd try to read, and read again, on the Internet, so to learn and then to test all the possible configurations.

All the images based on Enigma2 are free, open-source and completely developed by volunteers, so some minimal effort to learn the basics on their own is expected from the new users.

I know that for somebody all this learning might be time consuming, and sometimes the unsuccessful testing results might be a little frustrating, but if you wish a box ready to use just out-of-the-box and provided with a detailed user-manual, sorry, but Enigma2 receivers are not for you...;)

I really doubt the box is at fault 100%, unless it is defective which is not likely. BlackHole is a good image and I do not find it difficult to install.

OpenVix took the time to make a detailed user manual earlier this year. The Openvix manual carefully explains most of the settings and features that are available in Enigma2. You can find this manual if you look for it.

I would suggest reloading the image and starting all over. Set up 28.2 E on a single tuner, then add the other tuners once you have the single tuner working correctly. Add the tuners one at a time to make sure that they work correctly.

Actually it looks like the box really is faulty. When I see the same behaviour in BH, Vix and two others: namely very random remote control inputs, then either box or remote control has got to be faulty. If you're scrolling down it will suddenly jump to other menus as if you've pressed red.. or sometimes other keys.. for no reason.

Randomly you would have to hold on to a key for ages to get it to respond (eg: menu)

This was the same for all images I tried. I also tried new batteries & ensured the protective film was removed from the remote & receiver.

I think I rushed into buying the duo2 anyway, thinking it would still behave friendly (like Freesat) but also be open, extendable, and future proof. I'll talk to the place I got it from & send it back, it only arrived on Tuesday so I'm well within my rights: especially because it really is faulty.

My flirt with Enigma2/open source sat boxes is over. I'm a big fan of Linux, run Ubuntu desktop on a PC & have a small Ubuntu server doing some stuff, but sadly even if the Duo2 wasn't faulty I just don't think it's worth so much time & hassle when you want something which just works.

Thanks all,

Ashley
