How can I record to a external HDD

Hi all, I have a Samsung 1tb external HDD with a USB cable and I wanted to know if I can plug it in my VU+DUO and record to it. I did read somewhere that it was possible but I could not understand all the terminology. Can anybody explain it easily to me. Thanks
