how to config. the 3d plugin?

well.. how should i config the 3d plugin? i have tried to set it to auto, but it doesnt work, should i use mode 1 or mode 2?

is it possible to get it to switch automatic depending on 3D movie or not and if its side by side or not?

I had very few occasions to test 3D movies on free-to-air channels, and I never found the auto setting correctly working, I had to set it to the side-by-side mode which however is the mode normally used for 3D TV broadcasts.
