How to setup the Duo2?

I have ordered a new VU+ Duo2 and it should be delivered to me in a couple of days. I never use the VU+ before. It would be very appreciated if anyone can offer some suggestions and instructions regarding the setting.

Question 1.
I believe that the DUO2 comes with a basic operating system which is fully functional and can achieve the basic functions of the receiver.

A) If the above assumption is correct. Where the operating system is stored without a hard disk? Should I setup the system including the tunners before I install a hard disk or install the hard disk then setup the system?​

B) If the above assumption is incorrect, How do I check the receiver before install a third party software?​

Question 2.

I am going to use the BH2.05 as the operating system. What is the best procedure to setting up the receiver? Of course, I will install a hard disk drive.

Question 3.

I believe that I should install the harddisk first, then install the BH2.05. The HD from shop should be NTFS formated. Does the BH2.05 reformating the HD during the software installation procedure?

1) Yes. Vu+ box comes with official VuPlus image. The correct answer is A. The Image (or operating system + GUI called Enigma2) are stored on flash memory. It's a common step to open the box one time to install additional tuner and the HDD on the same time but you can install them separately without problems. The Image works without HDD but you cannot record TV programs without it.
2) I suggest to take a look into HowTo area where are stored some procedures and guides about Vu+ boxes in general and also for BH images
3) If you want, at the end of setup process of the Image, you can reformat it (very suggested to maximize performances) or maintain current filesystem. if you don't move your HDD from one box to PC or vice-versa I suggest to format the HDD with the box: for this step there are some panels on the Image and they are very intuitive.

I just have some uncertainty about your 3rd instrucion. If I installed a HD and then install the BH2.05, then format the HD. How the BH can formte the HD without erease the software?

The software it's INDIPENDENT from the HDD.

angleofsky1980: THANKS for your reply. I think understand now. The software is always stored in the flash and works from there, but some independent utilities may be going to the HD, the media files will be certainly stored in the HD. I have used a few of Dig-boxes before, the software (at least some of main parts) is intalled into HD, such as EPG configuration file, data files.....(Am I right ?). I think, this is why make me confused. Thanks again!
