Vu+ Newbie
Hi forum. I´m totally new in the world of Linux and all the possibilities the Vu+ Duo offers. I have installed the enigma software on my Vu+ Duo and the last couple of days i have been exploring all the menus. While doing that I have used the internet serching for tutorials and I´m getting a little bit wiser day by day, however I´m still in doubt if I´m
1 - supposed to install BH "on top" of the software I´m running now or I´should overwrite the current software with BH ?
2 - if I have to overwrite the existing software will all my current settings be replaced?

If the forum has a wiki on the topic, then I apologize for this post....have been looking, haven´t found one, pls post link if it exists :)

All help is appreciated, thanks in advance...

-As understand from your Q?#1 : you have the original vu+ image installed on your STB, if so, yes you can upgrade to BH images, and if you want to install 1.66 or later ones , U need to upgrade the STB boot loader (CFE),,,posts available @ V-C board for more details.
-As for your settings Q?#2 , yes it can be saved by Software manger (long press blue on the STB's RC).

I would recommend strongly to use the search function of V-C board for more info.

Have Fun w/BHImages,

Hmmm that´s probably why I can´t load the newest BH image :) I´ll do some more reading about the boot loader . I am still having trouble getting access to my Canal D programs (legal paired CAM and card) in your oppinion should I stay with the curent basic software till the problem is solved or will I get more options solving the problem with a BH image?

After upgrading the boat loader,,,try BH 1.76 ,,,its fun!

You need some Basic knowledge to understand What you are doing.

Images are like operating system - windows, Ubuntu, Apple os.

You update Images by downloading files from internet. Then you put unzipped folder on USB stick. You need to care about moving intact folder structure.
Then plug USB stick in front of USB reciever and restart it.
Upgrade process should start automatically - check front display for confirmation.

New bootloader: theres a part of image which properly initialize update procedure and booting process. If during USB update procedure you have issues you need to update bootloader first in the same way like image and the the image itself.

During image upgrading you actually completely replace one image with another. If you ve made backup before you can import settings later but not always importing Old settings works especially if you swich between different image provider like BH, VTI.

Thanls for the short brief regrading upgrading the bootloader. I will be carefull and I will do some more reading before I upgrade. I have been working a lot with Windows and I need to get used to the Linux structure and "way of operating". Haven´t had much time reading about upgrading, have been working on my other problem with access to my Canal D programs. Solved that problem partly (will explain in thread I posted regarding that problem) When I´m done with that I´ll work some more on the upgrade

Thanks for all the above answers . After reading some more about Linux I´ll probably be back with more questions :)

Whole process is dead simply. And you can roughly compare upgrading bootloader procedure to reformatting drive partition to make it bigger. Than you install new image like upgrading from win 98 to win XP ;-) but bootloader, if neccessary, needs upgrade just once.
