took the plunge and bought my new box arrives tomorrow.
just wanna no if my personal backup from my vu duo will work on my duo2?
or will i have to start from scratch?

Personal backups are not interoperable between different models.

But for ex. you can manually save your favorites bouquets (*.tv) to a PC and then copy those files back to the new Duo2.
Also keep a copy of your Duo's settings file (for reference only, it can't be directly restored to the Duo2).

If you're going to keep the Duo, simply compare its configuration screens side by side with the Duo2.
Use the internal backup/restore functions of the Duo installed plugins (if available).
