Lost HDD

Can someone please help me with this problem?
I am running BH 1.7.9 software. Vu+ Duo. Just put a new 500GB HDD into the box set up the Mountpoint, Initialize the drive and for an hour or so all run ok. I backed up to the drive ok.
After 2 hours decided to do a personal back up, system crashed. Checked the drive was still mounted via Blue - Blue- Device manager - Drive missing, 5 seconds and the system crashed. Rebooted - Menu- setup- system - harddisk - Initialization - This shows the HDD - ok - shows HDD and Iniitialize - RED - yes - BH Message box appeares saying: "Unable to initiialize harddisk. Error: Creating partion failed"
Not sure how to upload a crash log, tried 4 times but each time it reports extention not recognised (enima2_crash_1358468930.log). Do I need to format the drive if so what is the command to use via DCC FTP?

Gave up trying to get going. Reinstalled flash etc, now scaning satellites, at this moment in time I have been able to mount the new HDD and all appears to be working ok.
I guess the problem was software corruption but how and why remains a mystery.
