Mountpoint questions - can anyone advise please

Vu+ Newbie
Hi - I now have a Vu+ Solo2. I have installed a 2.5" hdd 1TB Hitachi Travelstar. I also have a 1TB usb hdd which is a Samsung S2 portable. Additionally I have 8Gb Sandisk cruzer slice usb stick which I have so far used to install 2.03 BH image.
Can anyone advise how best to set up the mountpoints - I am thinking of using the internal hdd for backups and recording and possibly the ext usb hdd for epgs, picons, timeshift. This would leave the 8Gb usb stick for meoboots.
Am I over complicating things here by trying to use the extra 1TB usb hdd? If anyone can suggest the best way to set upu the mountpoints I would be very grateful.
Thankyou.

Internal HDD for backups, recordings, timeshift. USB Flash with 2 partitions, 1st Meoboot, 2nd epg and picons. No external HDD.
This would be my choice.

thanks paolino. Can you specify the mountpoints I need to use for your option. Also could the usb flash be located at the rear of the receiver. I have other usb flash if I want to install newer or other images from the front usb on receiver. I assume no need to partition internal hdd? Thank you again.

USB flash can be located on rear USB without limitations. No partitioning for internal HDD. No mountpoints for USB flash, at first 2 partitions for USB, next follow Meoboot installation, afterthen mount 2nd USB partition as USB.

I have HDD for backups, recordings & time shift. I have the 8gb USB stick formatted via the solo2 and I chose 2 partitions and then had to choose filesystem, I selected ext2. This usb stick is in one of the two rear slots of the solo2. First of the 2 PNS mapped as /universe for parallel universe' the second on mapped as/media/usb for EPG,picons etc. Question is if I want to use meoboot then I need another pn formatted in ext4, at least that's my understanding. I didn't see anyway via USB format wizard to format individual partitions with different filesystem's. Can I use a second USB stick in the remaining rear USB slot for meoboot. Thank you.

Same think in Italian http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/perdita-chiavetta-usb.12686/#post-97345 and next posts.
Try gughi translate. If this will not help, let us know

Hi - I looked here and seems to say I would say to install MeoBoot. For up now and better supported. Make 3 partitions, 1. mount universe, 2. mount usb, 3. no mount.
Install universes, installs MeoBoot, just mount 3. partition as usb.
I'm not sure, but so it should work.
Question is I didn't see how you can format different PNS on USB in different filesystem'. Sorry if I missed something else in Italian thread.

What is PNS?

I followed the format USB wizard instructions. What I do not see in the wizard is how to format 2 partitions in ext2 and the third in ext4 which I believe I should use for meoboot. Thanks.

Hi - I am sorry but maybe I am not understanding something when translating from Italian. I know I want three partitions on USB stick, but the format wizard doesn't seem to allow creating individual partitions with different filesystems. The wizard recommends ext2 for USB flash memory and ext4 for meoboot. Is it possible to use the Linux native ext4 for all 3 partitions I want [1 - RPGs,picons, etc. 2 - universe. 3 - meoboot.] Thanks and I appreciate your help and patience.

Gughli gughli from Italian and corrections:
I would say to install MeoBoot. Has better support now. Make 3 partitions, 1. mount universe, 2. mount usb, 3. no mount.
Install universes, install MeoBoot, just mount 3. partition as usb.

You can use ext4 for all partitions. Some are only recommended (ext2 file system), not required.

It doesn't work for me, because, once mounted my 2nd partition in /media/usb and installed MeoBoot, that mount point is locked.
So... the only way I've found to use 3 partitions (created from tool inside BH and all ext4 formatted) is to mount 1st partition in /universe, the 2nd (only for MeoBoot) in /media/cf and the 3rd one for CrossEPG, Picons etc etc in /media/usb.
The way I choose is to have only 2 partitions (ext4), the first on /universe and the 2nd in /media/usb for MeoBoot, CrossEPG, Picons etc etc.
