OpenBh 5.0

OpenBh 5.0.jpg

OpenBh 5.0 is based on the OE-Alliance 5.0 core.

So what is different in OpenBh 5.0 then?

OpenBh 4.4 build 023 was the final build in the 4.4 series.

The main change from OpenBh 4.4 to OpenBh 5.0 is that Python has been upgraded from Python 2 to Python 3. Python 3 is already 10 years old and Python 2 was deprecated in 2015 and is therefore no longer maintained. This means all the third party packages we use are also no longer maintained. Which means there will be no future updates for security vulnerabilities. Because of this we have no option but to upgrade to Python 3.

Unlike previous images, the main differences are in both the OpenBh image which has been recoded for Python 3 and the core of the image or the OE (Open Embedded) which has also undergone huge changes, updates and fixes to ONLY support Python 3.

Whats New:

  • OE-A 5.0
  • Python 3.9
  • Extensive changes to meet Python3 requirements.
  • Some plugins may no longer may no longer work, so you will need to contact the plugin authors to ask them to update their plugins for Python3.

Apart from the above you should not notice many differences between previous OpenBh 4.4 and OpenBh 5.0 images.

Did you restore a personal backup after the clean install? This is usually due to inconsistency between the "settings" file in etc/enigma2 (which is restored along with other personal settings) and incomplete restore of the plugins, whom are mentioned in the above file.

I have not restored any plugins ... but it was fresh install in flash..but I did online upgrade ...then this error appeared

* pkg_run_script: package "enigma2-plugin-extensions-junglescript" preinst script returned status 255.
* preinst_configure: Aborting installation of enigma2-plugin-extensions-junglescript.

To re-attempt the install, try `opkg install enigma2-plugin-extensions-junglescript`.
* opkg_solver_install: Cannot install package enigma2-plugin-extensions-junglescript.

My flash is only 10 % free and I wonder if it could be this, but I had installled this pluging and few more in the in 4.4 version
¿Any ideas of how to solve it? Thanks

Could be any number of things.

Not enough space, not Python3 compatible, network issues are just 3 possibilities.

It looks like it was due to not enough space. I flash again and I installed this plugin the first one with no issues. Then I installed the rest and all is working fine.Thank you.

If space is that tight for you, probably better to use OpenBh 5.0 in OMB then the only limit is the size of your usb stick.

Groundhog Day. No HbbTV. Great. Going back to 4.3.

5.0 is very slow.
Trying to create a full backup from the menu = crash & reboot.
Trying to restore my full 4.3 backup from the menu = crash & reboot.

Well, you could have got back to 1.0, just you were there, or to 0.6.
Install the image, update it and THEN try and import your personal backup.
How many other messages like yours have you found? And did you know that, after your 4.3 it's been out 4.4 for many, many months? Maybe you want a jump a little big too high and, obviously, you complain about the image, not your policy.

I didn't swim in a noodle soup to get here.

HbbTV doesn't work with 4.4 so I switched back to 4.3

I did install the image, imported my settings and tried to activate HbbTV. - And now? Any hints? :wallbash:

No HbbTV available. Instead, full backup causes crashes and reboots - both creating and restoring a full backup.
