Problem with HDD in vu+ solo2

Vu+ Newbie
Hy everyone,

in these days I found this problem. I installed new BH 3.0.5 F, then I tried to record a movie to HDD installed on VU+ solo 2, but the system told me that no HDD was present or mounted on the device. I tried to inizialize it, but I receice this message: Not possibile to format HDD - Error Mkfs failed. The I tried to format HDD from an external program I receive this message as in the file. Is it possibile to solve the problem or maybe HDD is in the end of his (short, sigh) life?

Thanks for answers

Why are you trying to format it with ( FS ) ntfs ( windows partition ), instead of iniitializing it as ext3 or ext4 ( linux )?

Hi, thanks for reply, the first message I received from black hole when I tried tio initialize HDD. Could you please suggest me how to makei it or if there is another way?

Thanks a lot

I suspect that the disk is defective but.. before taking that for sure, I'd try these steps:

1) Format it as ext4 by BH
If it fails,
2) connect it to any computer and remove any partitions. Then format it in whatever file system, just to see if you get any errors. Obviously, it's easier to try and formatting it by a computer, doesn't matter if it's a Mac or a windows or a Linux PC: if the HDD is defective, this format will fail however.
3) If, instead, you succeed in formatting it, remove every partitions and leave it unpartitioned. Then connect it back to the VU+ and initialise it as ext4 disk. Remember that for a linux-based system (as BH is) you also need, after formatting a disk, to MOUNT it. This is made under the BH Applications.
If this fails, I'd try to initialise as ext4 connecting it to a PC and by a linux system or by a partitioning tool for your PC or Mac.

Internal or external nothing changes: you can remove it from the box and connect to a computer, particularly because Solo2 has got a 2,5" HDD (if I'm not wrong) that you can put in a box a connect to a computer. Anyway, try what nunigaia suggests, taken that linux commands can be more uncomfortable. By a computer you have more tools.

Thanks for answer, in fact nothing works in linus to solve this problem. I'll try to buy a dock station to do something with windows, if is still possible.
