rear USB port not working and no sound after reboot

Hi all total noob so I may have done something wrong.

I have a solo which has a rear and front USB port.I want to use the rear port for my 2.5HDD.
For some reason it has totally stopped working to the point that I don't see harddisk in the set up menu if I plug anything into it.

If I ,plug HDD into the front USB port it works fine.

Couple of things to add

When adding my HDD I only went into set up HDD and initialize I didn't make the folders etc that I've seen in a post should that matter.

Other thing is I turned to box of at the mains at night with the HDD connected would that make a difference.

When I try and go into device manager with the USB connected and working at the front the box crashes, get a green screen and it restarts.

Also after a reboot sometimes I get no sound at all, I have to unplug and plug and HDMIcable and then I get sound

Post a crashlog of the error.

i think i might have foudn what the problem is

i didnt format the HDD using the format wizard...........i didnt even know it existed

i have done that & now the rear usb works & also device manager displays the HDD

i wasnt sure how many partitions to create so i created 2 each of 125g

should i need more than 1 - saw something about expanding my universe & needing a dedicated partition for that????

do i need to set up my HDD as per the tutotial for recording or leave it as is?

wasnt sure what advantage the different folders give it?

For recording U need to set up a path : Menu>set up>System>Recording paths (Use = Default movie location > /hdd/movie).
For USB partition , if U have for example 8 G memory stick, then enter 4000 for each partition!
 
ok at the moment i havent set any paths & its recording onto the HDD
im using a 250gig ext HDD & have 2 partitions so should i set the folders up as per the tut?

will this then enable me to play movies off the usb as well?
