Script or telnet command to scan in background

I wonder if there is any script or telnet command to scan in background using tuners not busy. I find also strange the fact is impossible to scan, for instance, a tuner set for a specific sat while I just watching a DVB-T service or viceversa or, more in general, a sat different from the one I'm watching.
