setting usb stick as hard drive

Hi all hope i dont sound thick but i have tried and tried to set me 32gb memory stick as the hard drive in the front usb . ive formatted it tried all kinds of configarations but no good. can someone point me in the right direction i have a VU+ solo thanks in advance
