Hi guys,

Does anyone experience occasional problem with no sound comming from vu uno? Today I've installed BH 2.0 and it happened to me at least three times that sound stopped working suddenly without any apparent reason. Sometimes switching channels help but sometimes I need to restart the receiverro get the sound back! It is very anoying because the image is great otherwise. This never happened to me on OpenPLI image. I'm wondering what's wrong here. I've already noticed there is very low space left after installation, could this be a problem? Thx.

Hi, it is connected through standard HDMI cable, nothing special. I had to restart the box once, because nothing helped to bring the sound back. I've tried to switch channels, also unplugged and plug back hdmi cable, mute and un-mute.... nothing helped. Good to mention here that often sound didn't worked after I've played a video. I needed to run it two or three time to make the sound work. Also the sound often refused to play after I've restarted GUI. After hard reset it was ok, but it is very unreliable. I have read some other forums where users had similar issues but there was no help for it. Would be great if someone could figure it out, hardly believe that other Vu+ UNO users do not experience such issues.

Please, write also about Audio/Video configuration (resolution, Dolby Downmix), BH version (2.0.1 rev.A?).
Try also to change HDMI cable and verify, if there is sound on analog outputs when it's not on TV.

Sound is standard configuration, there is dolby downmix by default but I do believe this is not the problem because sound sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I updated to newest 2.0.1 rev.A. HDMI cables is fine, I have never had problems on other images - Vti, openPLI and others. I will try to check analog outputs when it happen again but actually I don't have cinch cable :)

In another thread I've noticed that also another user have this sound issue. He is writing that the sound makes problems after playing videos from hdd or mytube. I've also tried to play some mkv 730p/1080p videos from HDD, so maybe this is related. Everything forked fine, but from time to time sound was gone. Maybe it confuses some audio codecs so the sound not work afterwards and restart is needed.

Now it's going to have sence, could depend on format of mkv, here is plenty possibilities of Video/Audio combinations.
I'cant try. I don't have *.mkv files.
I'm using only external USB DVD player and I never had an audio problem.

Well, yes, mkv can contain almost every video and audio format so it's hard to say what causes those sound problems. Needles to say, I haven't encountered it on my previous pli image but most likely it is caused by some codecs which mess the audio. I will try to observe and let you know if ai find anything related.

I have reported a easy reproducable case of locking the sound earlier. It happens when a MP3 stream is played (which is done via HW acceleration on VU+) and is interupted without resetting that proces (In my case a crash of YAMP music player plugin). Sound will be gone afterwards. Even a GUI restart does not restore sound under that condition. Restarting YAMP on the other hand followed by a clean exit of the YAMP plugin restores the sound again.
Did not get any reaction on that report.

Many other audio/video formats may have MP3 or other HW accelerated sound formats in their tracks. If a plugin does not exit in a clean way for whatever reason i expect this can happen also with other plugins. Obviously this may vary per image type and release BH/VTI/PLI etc

......It happens when a MP3 stream is played (which is done via HW acceleration on VU+) and is .....
Many other audio/video formats may have MP3 or other HW accelerated sound formats in their tracks. .....

H/W acceleration is supported in this cases (for BCM7413 - UNO, ULTIMO others are quite the same)
Advanced audio processor supporting the following:
- AAC LC, AAC LC+SBR Level 2, AAC+ Level 2, AAC-HE
- Dolby® Digital, Dolby Digital Plus
- MPEG-1 layers 1, 2, and 3 (MP3)
- Windows Media® and Windows Media Pro audio
- One pair of on-chip stereo high-fidelity audio DACs
- 3D SRS audio support

So when the format of played file respects above written format in all details you should not to get green screen. And it's on the player, if it use processor HW acceleration or not.

For Solo2 BCM7405 audio decoding (You can see, that supports HW acceleration of Windows Media too, but they are not playable because of licence question - player):

Advanced audio processor supporting: AAC LC, AAC LC+SBR Level 2, AAC+ Level 2, AAC-HE, Dolby® Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, MPEG I layers 1, 2, and 3 (MP3), Windows Media® and Windows Media Pro audio, one pair of on-chip stereo high-fidelity audio DACs, 3D SRS audio support, and one I2S input port and one I2S output port, plus S/PDIF output

To misenko: Easy to test if this is the cause for your problem too. When you don't have sound any more then just start up the standard Media Player and play any MP3. If you get sound from there then we have a common Root Cause. Exit the player and I expect everything to be back to normal again.

And yes overloading Flash is a problem. I am at 92% in Black Hole universe for my standard environment. Work from Avalon for daily usage with additional plugins. Plenty of space there. You should absolutely avoid storing Picons in flash together with this huge image also.
