Streaming to LAN

Dani

Vu+ Newbie
I have been happily streaming from E1 and E2 boxes for years now.
With varying results.... depending on stream.

I used to stream to a windows machines, both wired and wireless using a wireless G protocol.
Generally happy with the results.

I have since moved to a Apple MacBook Pro (current model) and use a Vu+ Ultimo.
Which has added a DVB-T tuner to the mix of things to stream.

I have been streaming both DVB-S SD and HD and DVB-T SD and HD streams with varying success
Once again, still using the g wireless and 10/100 wired network.

Both DVB-S and DVB-T seem to stream fine in SD
DVB-S and DVB-T stream HD fine if i am close to the wifi G access point and degrade as i move away (8 meters will do it...)

So bought a new Wifi router that does both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, is WiFi N, and has a 4 port 10/100/1000 LAN... connected everything up and expected better results.
Thinking it was the speed of the G access point that was letting things down.

MacBook Pro has 5Ghz, so i connect to the router with that

There has been a small improvement, but HD streams still fail to load and play when more than 7 meters away from the router. I dont live in a brick house, just timber and plaster.

I can have more success by connecting the stream whilst next to the router, then walking away... for some reason, it just works better this way??
But after a while, the stream will break down and jog or stop completely.

The worst of all these streams is the HD from DVB-T... its a 1080i signal.... but so is the HD from the DVB-S....

I really thought getting a gigabyte LAN and Wireless N router would fix my issues, but it seems the issues are more or less, the same...

Vu+ Ultimo (Blackhole 1.7.6)
MacBook Pro (using iDreamX and VLC)
Gigabyte LAN and Wireless N at 5Ghz

Any ideas? I can change the Stream quality in iDreamx, which does have some difference, low quality will connect and play faster.

Many Thanks ;)

Hello Dani,

Also got an MBP (old 5.1 connected in wifi n to Freebox router wired to Ultimo) and I can stream in HD (DVB T providing higher bit rate than DVB S over here in France) without any issue expect sometimes during the evening. Same issue with ipad 2, I know there has been valid argument about having an antenna behind a metal casing but I think the main issue is wireless traffic of your neighbours, I have used iStrumbler to scan the best wifi channel to settle. Guess this is a moving target but it did improve things.

My 2 cents, Phil.

Thanks Phil.
I live in an isolated area... so i do not suffer much external RF interference on the WiFi spectrum.
How ever, i will move my new router away from and existing access point which is situated close by...
