Request swap file

got few questions about swap file:
1. what does it actually do??
2. best created on usb or hdd? if on hdd does it keep hdd running all time??
3. What is best size for swap file?
4. do I have control over the" swap in use"?? eg restarting the box??

1) it's extra memory for the box (it increase the RAM)
2) USB it's better thing
3) depends. 256Mb are usually a good size
4) you can see the swap usage from Sys-Info panel (Blue - Yellow button)
 
It doesn't matter if 50% is in use, all that means is your box needs to use the space in addition to the ram.

Yes but I notced it my solo hangs on spinner when swap is in use, when I open info panel.. I do have few plugins eg crossepg, iptv, and few media plugins and subtitles...is it better to put epg data on usb or hdd??

On Solo(1) box there are possibility to use only USB (sticks / HDDs). I suggest (if it's Ok for you) to store them on HDD.
 
My question.. when swap in use goes to 50% for example, how can I bring it down to zero again?? or just just keeps going up??
Sorry, don't know about that, not has that problem. Does it go upto 100%? Sounds to me like a plugin or blackhole ain't behaving itself.
Have you tried a clean install followed by reinstalling plugins one by one to see if you can find the culprit? It's a pain but that's what I'd try.
Maybe wait and see if someone has a better idea first.

no never up to 100%... just about 40%.. i have 22 plugins include crossepg, subtitle player, iptv plugins, youtube live football etc, and about 10 skins..
basically the receiver is about to explode :grin:

You've just answered your own question delete some plugins to improve performance! Swap is only used when stb requires extra ram
