Always the same: people keep thinking of video files as they were .xls or .doc or .pdf.
It is totally useless speaking of mkv or avi or mp4: what matters in video files is not the extension but it is the codec used. Re-encode with Handbrake and h264 and it'll work.
A STB is not like VLC which has the ability to decode almost every kind of codecs. But VLC is a software not hardware. The same is for TVs: do you think that TVs are able to play videos coded with every codecs in the world?

If manufacturers would like to make a TV with an ability to play every codec I think that wouldn't be a big problem. Unfortunately all this is about marketing. Same with STB, but regarding the Black Hole "software" it all depends on you guys, the BH and Enigma2 coders. As I presume BH software can't decode HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) yet. Don't you think it's time to improve the software as that kind of codec may become very popular in the future?

So the hardware of a STB is as powerful as a computer, isn't it? It is not all a question of software in this world. On the contrary: it's the hardware that processes the software not all the way around.

If we would talk about the old Nokia dbox2, yes, I would agree.
I thought Duo2 is one of the most powerful STB in the world.
I am not an expert but I think it is powerful enough to play it if the software could decode it.
