Transcoding settings

Hello all,

first time here, nice community :)

Yesterday I bought a Solo2 and I installed the Black Hole 2.0.9 image.

The first option I tried is the transcoding feature, which is the reason I bought this decoder.
Before I used to transcoding through my Mac with VLC to my iOS devices using the app BlackBox.

What I noticed is that the options available are not so customizable...
The maximum throughput I was able to setup was 1Mbit so far. As a result, the image is pretty ugly.
Since I have a 10Mbit upload connection (that is enough to stream SD channels w/o transconding), I would like to setup the transcoding for HD channels, that requires for sure 15-20 Mbit.

My question is: how can I setup the transcoding thing in order to use 7-9 Mbit instead of 1-2 Mbit?

Thanks for any tip :)

Thank you for your answer.

How can Vu+ block this behavior if I'm not using their image?
It's only SW related...

Because Transcoding configuration plugin is the same also for Duo2 box.
Solo2 and Duo2 have both Transcoding features but Duo2 is more versatile and can be more customizable.

Since I'm new on this subject, you probably have more information and knowledge than me; but since the HW specs are quite the same between Solo2 and Duo2, I think that using the same configuration on both devices the result should be the same.
I don't think that having 1GB RAM more on Duo2 will change anything on the transcoding behavior.

Anyway, thanks for your answer!

I'm sorry but the two boxes have different hardware inside them. Duo2 CPU is more powerful and capable than the one choosed for Solo2 box.

As far as I know
One of the major differences is the possibility for transcoding
Processor for DUO2 has support for transcoding

  • Integrates a real-time HD transcoder that converts broadcast, over-the-top (OTT) and user-generated content into a wide range of resolutions, formats and bit rates that enable seamless content distribution to connected devices both in the home and on-the-go, and also provides advanced services, such as video conferencing

and this is probably the reason why this option is limited to solo2.

not true. Duo2 and Solo2 have this same powerfull cpu brcm4380...yes, this is cpu in solo2 and duo2.

@Matrix10
this option is limited in solo2 becouse vu+ want this...this is "product positioning" nothing more, and it's blocked in drivers

@all BH
Few months ago you (BH) says that solo2 cant transcode with variable bitrate and framerate, People start sends email to vu+ and now we have this features...

Matrix10 has already explained the difference and, FYI the string you report is ONLY the CPU family and not the CPU model.
Prior to post, take the correct infos in the future.

It is good if the VU + managed to get transcoding on solo2
but definitely not true that the both use the same processors, and the possibility with them.
Of course we (BH team) do not know what all it can make VU+ coding team.
But there is definitely a difference between Processors
In any case, based on the specification of fabric Broadcom.

so pls watch out for in the future
for incorrectly placing informations

And the placement of negative advertising about VU+ and BH team on the basis of false informations.
For such informations, we will respond on the basis of forum rules.
