Understanding satellite scan

Hello,

Can anyone please explain in a nutshell about satellite scanning? What is the difference between Automatic\ Manual \ Blind scanning?

Why does specific TV stations automatically shown by my 40 us$ set top box, are not there while fully scanning it with my VU+ Ultimo?

Should the my Ultimo be provided with an initial satellite list or it is capable of performing a full automatic scanning from scratch by queering the available satellite list to the LNB's in my dish

Thank you in advance,
Ruvain

I have no Vu+ box yet, but I try to explain in general. Automatic scan depends by transponder stored in receiver list. So, if one or more transponders are not included in the list, the box skips them and these channels will not be stored. Manual scan is a single transponder scan: you select a specific transponder of your choice (frequency, symbol rate and so on) and the box stores only channels included in it. Blind scan is..... blind! Without any parameter! You don't need any value previously included in transponder list, you choose just start and stop frequencies (maybe polarity, if you want) and the box performs a totally blind scan, starting from lower frequency until upper one, in one or both polarity.
If your box skips some channels that you receive with your 40 US$ receiver check your transponder list, maybe that transponder is not present.
Surely other forum members using Ultimo will provide better information.

Hi Gigantone

Thank you very much for detailed replay. I tried yesterday to use the Dreamset application with automatic build of list mechanism.
For one reason or other it did not build for me, the complete list. For instance Amos 4.0W has more then what was compiled by application by the web source
it uses for creating the lists.

The problem I have is ,that I am still unfamiliar with all parameters like polarity FEC and etc' And how do this parameters interact.
So at the moment, I would not know how to intervene in the configuration files of the machine. and I remain in the hands of the automaion
provided by Dreamset, unless somebody can tell where can I get a n alternative

Regards,

Ruvain
