Update BlackHole

Kantilo

Vu+ Newbie
Hello,
I had installed BlackHole a long time ago, so there is no built-in upgrade utility, how can I do to update?

The question is not that "there is no built-in upgrade utility". It's always possible to UPDATE (not upgrade) a VU+ image.
The problem is that is NEVER possible to upgrade online an image. So, you can't upgrade, for instance, from 3.0.4 to 3.0.5.
You can only save your settings and you might also try to save your plugins and configurations by the function "Personal backup" but it's not guaranteed the result.
And, anyway, these personal backups have a little chance of being usable only from a version to the next. Surely, if you have a 2.1.7, for instance, you have no chance to import them in the current 3.0.5.
So, save your channels by one of existing software or by the OpenWebInterface and then flash the box and start from scratch to install the plugins.

Thanks, so the IPK will still work from one version to another?
What is the difference between update and ugprade?
I think I do not have openwebinterface, it's integrated natively?
So if I understand correctly I have to flash normally with a USB key?

What you are talking about? There are hundreds of .ipk, each of them are the packages to install a plugin: what has to do a plugin with the whole image?

Just googling you would get the answer: update is a small operation ON THE SAME OPERATIVE SYSTEM; an UPgrade is a change of grade, a transition from an O.S. to the next.

Yes, just type the IP address of your box in a browser connected to the same LAN.

Yes, but this way you'll lose everything. You can, at least, reload your settings (i.e., channels).
