Update for 2.0.1 Failure

Tried to update to Rev A using the online update ( I assume that 's what its supposed to achieve )but all I managed to do with the Uno was a failure to boot to the GUI. It just hung and after repeated tries with the same result I had to re- instal from the flash.To make matters worse I had forgotten to do a personal back up.
Any idea what I did wrong?( apart from the personal back up )
