Login as root using telnet, then type 'passwd'.
It will prompt you to enter a new password for the root user.
This is the same username/password for the webinterface if you have authentication enabled.
You can create your own username by editting /etc/passwd but there is not much point in doing this, as you will need root access to do most things on the box. It will also be lost when you update the image.
