Vu Duo2 Black Hole 2.1.0 DISEqC Problem

Hi all,

Scanning channels and DISEqC problem. I can't find anything.

My first post. I have a reasonably complex sat system where I have a motorised C Band dish using DISEqC 1.2 and a series of fixed KU Band dishes using DiSEqC 1.1. Now this system has been working for years using an AZ Box premium plus which I have now decided to replace it with a Vu Duo2 but unfortunately I have to use the ADVANCED SETTING and I have spent two days (and failed) either trying to get the motorised dish to scan channels or to scan any of the individual fixed KU Band dishes.

To keep it simple I will seperate it in two sections.

Section 1: a 2.3 metre C Band dish that uses DISEqC 1.2. I have at least 12 satellites programmed in my AZ Box which of course is now replaced with the Vu Duo 2 and I have only been using one satellite for testing which is Asiasat 5 (via DISEqC 1.2)at 100.5 degrees east as the VBox2 is on that satellite and it doesn't matter what reception settings I use I cannot find any transponders either blind scan or normal scan any transponders on this bird. I suspect I have one or more setting incorrect.

Section 2: I have over 11 KU Band dishes but to keep it simple as I am using two separate DISEqC switches that are 8 X 1 but again we will only talk about one of them which is connected to a sat input on the Duo2, so we have 8 of those inputs that are connected to 8 separate KU dishes and I know they all work because they were all working a few days ago with the AZ box, but because the Duo 2 is very complex in the ADVANCE section I expect once again I have one or more of my settings which are incorrect as I set the setting for each DISEqC number which matches the dish and it finds nothing. Please note this Duo 2 has a dual tuner on Tuner A where one tuner goes to an 8 port 1.1 DISEqC switch and the second half of the tuner (the one below it) goes to the other 8 X 1 DISEqC switch. I have had suspicion that the DISEqC commands are going to the wrong input, in other words the wrong tuner which then would be going to the wrong DISEqC switch but I have eliminated that problem (for testing only) to simplify things by disconnecting one of the DISEqC switches that connects to the second below input of Input A.

In general my Duo 2 has in tuner A a dual port S2 tuner. In tuner B I have a terrestrial CT tuner which is set at T for terrestrial and this is 100% fine as the terrestrial side of things are working perfectly, as I have all the channels available to me.

I would please require some help just to start with, either section 1 (DISEqC 1.2 motorised) or section 2 (fixed KU Band dishes) to find out why when I scan for any transponders on any satellites except for one (it was a universal LNB Sat and I was able to scan that) why I cannot find anything. I must have one or more of my settings which are incorrect in this complicated menu. I have tried to post a pic but the forum wont allow it as I am a new member. Where am I going wrong? Can anyone that understands these Duo 2's reply to me a list of what should be set and not set for section 1 and section 2 above.

Thank you

In simpler terms guys one Diseqc 1.2 Motor dish using diseqc 1.2 what settings are needed in the Reception Settings/Advance setting.
In simple terms for diseqc 1.1 what setting do I need in Reception settings/Advance setting for a 8x1 Diseqc switch for 8 ku dishes using diseqc 1.1
It all sounds simple but I have searched the net and all there is is more confusion.

Are you running your motorized cable separately to your V-Box II, and then into your receiver, so that you are using your receiver to move the dish?
Do you want both tuners to be set to get both the motorized dish, and fixed dishes, or are you trying to set up tuner A for the motor and Tuner B for the fixed dishes?
Your system is complex but I have read of others using fixed dishes, and a motorized dish, on the same setup, but I'm not sure if this included a V-Box II.

Getting your Duo2 setup to match your V-Box II settings is very easy, but I'm not sure how you have your C Banb, and KU band LNB's set up.

My original setup with the AZBOX that worked for years was 2 x 8 port DISEqC switches going through a 12Voltr switch but we will only talk about ONE of them for now as the 12 volt switch is not needed with the duo2 as it has 2 Sat inputs in one module
I now have all my KU dishes working in the complex ADVANCE setup NOW!!!!. I have this 8x1 DISEqC switch connected to port A TOP yes the top one Sat input (ps Port A bottom input is for the other 8x1 DISEqC switch) and this 8 time DISEqC switch has 6 connections going to 6 KU dishes all working PERFECT!!. Now the 7th and 8th port on this 8x1 DISEqC switch feed 1/ a 1.8 C BAND) dish (still cant get it working) 2/ the feed for my mortised dish so this motorized dish after it leaves the DISEQC switch it goes to the V BOX and then the LNB (has worked for years like this).
Now as I have just said now after 24hours has gone past I have all 6 KU dishes working perfect under the Advance but forget the motor one for the moment I cant even get the one 1.8M C Band dish working and it should be the same as the other 6 KU (coming from the same 8 x 1 DISEqC switch)except for 1/ THE LOCAL being CBAND and the correct DISEqC number which it has.

Something VERY VERY ODD with these VUDuo2's as why is it in c band manual SCAN that it has 5 numbers and not 4? Say a freq is 3740 Horz. I have tried 03740 or 37400 or is this the if I remember correctly the IF Frequency and that would have 5 numbers in it.
Again the scanning parameters for CBAND instead of 3700 to 4200 they are 0950000000 to 2150000000 so if you want to do a manual scan of 3740 how do you convert that to IF Freq?
Like I have said in the above FORGET about the Mototised dish for the moment lets get the single C/Band dish working from a DISEqC switch that has all its KU brothers working perfect!! There must be another setting to change beside CBAND.
By the way to get the ku dishes working perfect and with all transponders and 4 out of the six dishes use 10700 lnb's I had to set the LOCAL's at 09750 and 10600 followed by 11700. Its was impossible to get the KU dishes working on a 10700 lnb using the local of 10700 , 10700, with 11700.
Whats the Story with these Local's

I just got my Single fixed CBAND dish working on my 8x1 Diseqc. In Advance where you select CBand (ps I'm also use Ku on this sat on another Diseqc) In advance instead of selection CBAND select USER DEFINED 09750,10600,11700 Hell whats going on!.
I did read something on another site say for both C and KU blind scans look only at the IF frequency. Well now I have 6 KU dishes up and running, one single CBAND dish up and running and now the last DISEqC being number 8 for my motorised dish. lets see how I go. Funny thing is in Simple Mode you use CBAND setting in Advance you must have to use only USER DEFINED.

You could simplify things by having all your fixed KU band dishes on tuner A, either by using the same setup you have now or by getting a larger, 16 port, DiseQc switch, then run the cable, from your C Band, motorized dish, to your V-Box II and then into Tuner B.
You could then set up Tuner B to drive your dish, automatically, when the channel is selected.
This guide is for Europe, and from another forum, so the satellites are different:

How to setup Vu+ with VBox II DiSEqC 1.2 Positioner. If your VBox II already has the satellite positions stored and your changing from an old receiver to Vu+ then follow this procedure.

Write down your VBox II satellite position numbers. These are the numbers displayed on the front of the VBox II when moving to a
specific satellite position. These position numbers can also be found in your old receivers motor setup menu.

Example lets say...
Position 1 on VBox II = Astra 19e
Position 2 on VBox II = Eutelsat W2 16e
Position 3 on VBox II = Hotbird 13e

You get the idea...

First send the dish to Astra 19e using Vbox II.

On Vu+ Remote Press Menu
Select Setup Press OK
Select Service Searching Press OK
Select Tuner configuration Press OK
Select Tuner A Press OK

Now set Configuration Mode to Advanced. Use Left or Right arrows on remote to select.

Configuration Mode: Advanced
Satellite: Astra 19e
LNB: 1
DiSEqC mode: 1.2

Scroll down to bottom of the page with the down arrow on remote.

Use USALS for this sat: No
Stored position: 001

Press OK to store.

OK that's Astra 19e setup now to setup Eutelsat W2 16e

Now send the dish to Eutelsat 16E using Vbox II.

Select Setup Press OK
Select Service Searching Press OK
Select Tuner configuration Press OK
Select Tuner A Press OK

Configuration Mode: Advanced
Satellite: Eutelsat W2 16e
LNB: 2
DiSEqC mode: 1.2

Scroll down to bottom of the page with the down arrow on remote.

Use USALS for this sat: No
Stored position: 002

Press OK to store.

OK that's Eutelsat W2 16e setup now to setup Hotbird 13e

Now send dish to Hotbird using Vbox II

Select Setup Press OK
Select Service Searching Press OK
Select Tuner configuration Press OK
Select Tuner A Press OK

Configuration Mode: Advanced
Satellite: Hotbird 13e
LNB: 3
DiSEqC mode: 1.2

Scroll down to bottom of the page with the down arrow on remote.

Use USALS for this sat: No
Stored position: 003

Press OK to store.

You get the idea, now repeat for the rest of the satellites and your done.

Or you could go for the more complex route of running all your KU band LNB's, and your C Band motorized dish, to both tuners, which might take a lot of configuring.

My biggest mistake was not buying a 16X1 DISEqC switch. The two 8X1 DISEqC are the headache. I tried buying/chasing up a 16 port one but could not find one only to find out later that I could have got one from ebay in the US.
I was going to buy the 16 port one later but if I did the problem would have been that since the 16X1 DISEqC switch is square ( 4 ports per side) I would have had a short cable issue once fitting the switch. trust me every MM/inch of room is taken behind my cabinet

I will follow your instruction above for the V Box. I have read this somewhere days ago before I started the Duo2 project. Before I disconnected and SACKED the Axbox Premium + I wrote down all setting for the AZBox and the "P" and count numbers setting of the V Box

Well everything is working fine now and I have to thank you for your good post above in how to set up the V Box.
I started clean yesterday as I re-flashed the Duo2 with BH 2.1.0.1 and what I have done is I have reserved LNB 1 to 19 for DISEqC 1.2 V Box driven Satellites and LNB 20 to 32 where 32 is the max of LNB you can have to DISEqC 1.1 for all my fixed ku dishes and one fixed CBand dish.
So this is what I have now working. Duo2 TUNER A drives a 8X1 DISEqC switch where 6 of the ports are connected to 6 KU dishes. The 7th is the fixed CBand dish and the 8th is V BOX driving a C Band dish collecting 13 Satellites. So by this you can see that Tuner A and its 8x1 DISEqC switch is fully occupied.
Duo 2 TUNER B drives another 8X1 DISEqC switch where I have only two KU dishes connected to it (Third coming soon)
Duo 2 TUNER C drives Terrestrial and that Has everything I can get to the north of where we live and normal transmission tower.
Can you tell me why and this is the reason why I re flashed the box just in case if the box had corruption in it but after the re-flash NOTHING changed, can you tell my why the Duo 2 using BH 2.1.0.0 when you use the Plugin Blind scan it will not find any KU OR CBAND Satellites when setting in Reception Settings setup using Advance Configuration, User Defined, you use for KU sats with a 10700 LNB Dish you set the setting as LOF/L = 10700 LOF/H = 10700 Threshold = 11700 or you use 10700, 10700, 10700 these setting find nothing but if you leave it as LOF/L = 09750 LOF/H = 10600 Threshold 11700 you get all transponders Accounted for.
Now as for CBAND if you use for the LOF CBAND, again I get nothing but if I select User Defined LOF/L = 09750 LOF/H = 10600 Threshold = 11700 again I get all transponders accounted for. Can the above be explained.

The latest Black Hole version is 2.1.1.
Black Hole is just an image, like software, on a PC, there are other images available, although I've only used Black Hole, as it has more options, to suit my needs.
I haven't tried C Band, in Europe we don't have a lot of C Band transmissions, and they usually require a very large dish, which requires planning permission, and trouble with the neighbours, even my 1.2M dish is technically illegal, we are allowed a 1M dish.
I'm pleased you have everything working, and you seem to have a lot of viewing options, from both satellite, and terrestrial.
I assume your next step is to check out your recording options, from all your tuners, as you should be capable of recording a number of channels simulataneously.

I have a lot to learn about the duo2 and recording is just one of them. I need to get a list of plugins that might suit me and download them. Talking about plugins when I installed BH 2.1.0 I remember it asking me what plugins to shut off to increase the speed of the duo2. By any chance do you know the procedure of how to shut not unwanted plugins.
Thanks

@Contact99 : Blue>Blue>BH SpeedUp
Yes I noticed that in the menu. I might still shut down some of the other plugins that I don't think I will be using plus I will hit the Blue> Blue> BH Speed up.
I've also noticed in the plugins Browser/HBB TV so I enabled that as here where we live we have just started (last week) FreeView Plus a Video on demand or catchup TV service. I selected one of our FTA Terrestrial channels and the two option LEDs were on(red Green) and I selected it and it bought up to options for this channels Video on demand service and the other the new service Freeview Plus. When I get some more time I will test it to see how it preforms
