Vu+ Solo harddisk problem

I am trying to add a harddisk to my Vu+ Solo, but not having much luck. I have tried two different harddisks with the same results. The problem is that every time I restart the solo, the harddisk reports -1 mb free, and has to be initialized before I can use it. I have the disk connected via an internal usb hub. I have tried connecting it to the rear usb port, but it makes no difference.

At first I tried with no additional power, other than connecting the usb hub to the 5V on the power supply inside the box. Everything seemed to work, except it sounded like the harddisk had some problems when powering up, it went on and off a few times before spinning up completely. Other than that it worked fine after initializing it. But after restarting the solo, the disk reports -1 mb free, and has to be initialized again. So I thought maybe it needed more power. I've read several places that the disk has to have external power, I guess the 5V usb power in the box is not enough?

Now I have the usb hub connected to the 220V inside the box, thru a 5V dc 1200 mA converter. That should be enough power. It no longer seems to struggle when it powers up. Still works fine after initializing. But still reports -1 mb free and need initializing after every restart. What am I doing wrong here? Has anyone else had this problem? Does this happen to anyone else?

So I've read. And I have tried both 2.5" and 3.5" disks with power directly from the 220V in my wall. Still, every time my solo restarts, the harddisk is inaccessible and needs to be initialized. Could this be fixed somehow by mounting the disk manually, instead of using initialize from the menu? The disk is detected and working, the solo just does not have write access and the folder mapping is lost and so on.

I tried vti device manager yesterday. Was not aware that it existed or what it did. But from there I can mount the harddisk and map it withour initializing and wiping it. So I guess thats some kind of fix for the problem. The solo is powered on or at least in standby most of the time. Just have to fix the harddisk in device manager every time it has been completely off or needs a restart. Until I can figure out why its behaving that way. Can try formating it on a pc and see if that changes anything.
