Solo Vu SoloSE External HDD Question

Regarding the SoloSE, does it have enough power for an external USB HDD? Anyone here is using it with 1TB WD Element or my passport that doesn't need a power supply, will it be ok with the Solo SE for recording & timeshift?

I read somewhere that, you need an external HDD with dedicated PSU. I hope it is not true.
 
It will power a laptop drive in a usb caddy, but i'm not sure about a 3.5" desktop drive.
