Vu Ultimo - Random Tuner Assignment Loss/Picture

Vu+ Newbie
Hi,
As a newbie, I would like some help in undertsanding on the loss of a tuner assignment (picture loss) randomly on some of the channels on Astra 19.2E. A few months ago, I thought this had been solved, but unfortunately it has resurfaced again.

The Vu Ultimo receiver has BH176 with Triple S/S2 tuners which are directly connected to a quad input LNB (have tried loop-through option as well). I have tried rebooting the receiver and still the problem persists and I cannot establish any pattern as to what could be the random cause of this. I also noticed that sometimes the EPG data is missing for the corresponding channel.

Many thanks in advance, for all your help.

With kind regards.

Hi,

I haven't yet upgraded the Ultimo firmware and it's state remains as shipped from the factory. By doing this FPGA upgrade, will this affect the warranty of the receiver and cause any potential damage?

Am I correct, that the Firmware Upgrade Plugin option shown from the BH176 Menu Setup-Plugin, is the equivalent suggested instructions to upgrade. In the option, I am presented with FPGA Upgrade screen (press Green button to proceed, or Red button to close)? What should I do?

What are the known issues, if I performed the FPGA upgrade without re-installing BH176 (as suggested above)?

With kind regards,

With kind regards,
We are talking about a Vu+ official upgrade and it can't invalidate the warranty or damage your Ultimo.
You can damage it only uploading a wrong file.

If you upgrade the box by the FPG plugin, after downloading the file you have to confirm the upgrade by pressing the green button.

Since new drivers are been released, I suggested you to install the latest Black Hole image, the 1.7.8, not to reinstall the BH 1.7.6.

Finally, you can backup your settings by Black Hole Personal Backup and after the installing of the new image you can restore it by the same plugin.

With your helpful guidance, I have successfully performed the FPGA upgrade with the current BH176 image for the Vu Ultimo receiver. However, this still did not solve this issue. Another observation I accidentally discovered, was that if the receiver did manage to temprarily "lock onto" Tuner DVB-S, the SNR=0%, AGC=72%. Why is that?

As per your valuable instructions/posts, I have successfully upgraded the drivers after taking backup copies of the "old" ones. This has SOLVED my problem!!

I guess, spoken to soon. It appears that the drivers upgrade has made the issue more predictable but not 100% fixed the problem. Setting the Tuner C (DBV-S/S2) to "unconfigured" and then back again to it previous state of a single satellite seems to fix the problem. It almost seems to suggest that the receiver is trying to find a "spare Tuner" to display the picture, hence the problem.

Should all 3 Tuners be configured in a particular order regarding satellites setup, even though they have direct LNB feeds to them?

Also, if the receiver is reflashed with an image, will the firmware and drivers upgrades already made be reset and need to be reloaded?

How did you setted the 3 tuners (A-B-C)?

If you install a new image, the last drivers are already present in it.

At present, all 3 tuners are set individually to point to the same single satellite Astra 19.2E (no Disecq) with their own separate LNB feeds.

Regarding the updated drivers, what I meant was if BH176 was reinstalled again, I presume that I would need to repeat the same driver installation (excluding the firmware) which you kindly advised earlier.

Therefore you should have the follwing configuration:

Tuner A
Configuration Mode: Single
Satellite: Astra 19.2°E
Send DiSEqC: No

Tuner B
Configuration Mode: Equal to
Tuner: Tuner A....

Tuner C
Configuration Mode: Equal to
Tuner: Tuner A....

Yes, you should reinstall the drivers again.

Therefore you should have the follwing configuration:

Tuner A
Configuration Mode: Single
Satellite: Astra 19.2°E
Send DiSEqC: No

Tuner B
Configuration Mode: Equal to
Tuner: Tuner A....

Tuner C
Configuration Mode: Equal to
Tuner: Tuner A....

If that doesn't work then just use:

Tuner A
Configuration Mode: Single
Satellite: Astra 19.2°E
Send DiSEqC: No

Tuner B
Configuration Mode: Single
Satellite: Astra 19.2°E
Send DiSEqC: No

Tuner C
Configuration Mode: Single
Satellite: Astra 19.2°E
Send DiSEqC: No
