Vu+ Newbie
Hi All,
Over years I had multiple Vu+ receivers and all were more or less serious multimedia beasts - playing back every format through native or plugin based player!
Couple months ago I had a good opportunity and got a nice 4K 55" TV and even though my Duo2 was (and still is) performing excellent I decided to go and try one of the latest Vu+ 4K receivers...
I knew in advance that selection of UHD content on Hotbird 13E is very limited hence my main target was to test its media playback capabilities - UHD MKV files especially with hopefully better PQ and Audio too.
At the beginning I have to say that initial setup was that bit more complicated due to CPU being an ARM type unit (all plugins I was interested in had to be written specifically for ARM architecture - any plugins marked with "all" as compatible with MIPS and ARM were simply failing during installation).
Once I finally got all or nearly all plugins installed there came the biggest disappointment - it is completely unreliable when it comes to playback of MKV UHD files... In my test the only UHD files I could play reliably were the recordings created by the receiver itself - I have to admit there was not that many tested but after trying few I simply said it's not up to my expectations to have sound only and no video on 3 MKV files out of 5 tested!
I don't know if it is still in early days or if it even can be resolved through software. As per now and comparing directly PQ of HD channels from DUO2 and UNO4KSE I can't see any difference on 55" UHD TV (or DUO2 might be slightly ahead still!).
I'm very interested what are your, Cuplus-Community Colleagues' feelings and findings from using your Vu+ 4K receivers?
Regards,
T
P.S.
