Dear Vuplus Community fellows,
The world of open systems is in front of us for many years making our community as knowledge sharing platform for all of wonderful people willing to help the community with their ideas, solutions and final products. I am in digital satellite almost two decades starting with the early D2MAC semidigital platform for satellite broadcast transmission and also in the field of open source coping with the UNIX systems that many in that time didn’t wish to understand as the future of the software community. Open source idea develops through the time, ad the open system concept is the core business focus of the Ceru's Vu+ team that gave us its Duo and Solo models as the result of the Linux based receivers usage demonstrated sharing community rich of development. As the wholly work of these efforts we got the Uno (and Ultimo, too) that presents the current ideal for ordinary and novice users willing to enter in the open system world through the media and network station that this receiver could be. Vu+ official team listen customer base very carefully and develop its firmware and basic system software as well as hardware very successfully. They also cope with the world related child program viewing children as a future of the any society and continuously donate a portion of their profit to child welfare institutions around the world. This activity corresponds with entire open source community dignity that many Ubuntu users found through this Linux distribution in the past.
Thanks to the many of you, clever guys and girls, too, we have interesting work that sometimes has no any means but it make our community richer. The official team also develops its unit with the new image (6.0) that incorporates the results of the sharing knowledge through the open community and also through our Vuplus Community. However, the Uno could be seen as the environment that lacks of helpful user interface and poor in utilities, but we got the Web browser and other plugins that with the Blackhole image make this receiver quite interesting tool, toy and the teaching aid. Through the Blackhole community we got stabile software environment and addons that run in robust and fault resistant way. Although there are other images on the scene, we have to say that Blackhole image, in general, helps many users that are without adequate knowledge in using full potential of this receiver. Novice users are new to the system and will need a simple and basic interface. Since they are new in the system they will expect more secure ways of doing things in the system and the interface should provide simple ways to achieve important frequently performed tasks. When designing to novice users we should remember what the main use cases and don't shadow them with unnecessary features. This interface is visible to the user through the skins, the tool making Vu+ units adaptive to the desires, needs and attitudes of the single user. It is done through the skins, and many thanks to Matrix10, the author of Rihanna default skin for Blackhole image making the 1.6.6 image not only attractive but also full of possibility in settings, working conditions and various media activities. For example, we can play DVD files, and with the little work on sharing DVD device in PC we could also play DVDs through the Net-mounting directly via Uno - the plugin has ordinary DVD player possibilities and functions. Further, we have Web browser, Youtube player, Webradio and other useful tools that giver plenty of possibilities. In order to continue the community's activity it is needed to better understand each other and with the help to newbies we expand the scope and barriers of recent knowledge. In the same time, there should be sometimes more information (although the making documentation is hard work for most of young developers) on the addons and plugins that someone wants to share - sometimes people do not understand what the addon actually work and how to use it. There are also the tricks and tips in using Uno image, but it should be the goal for every new user to explore, seek solutions and after that, at the end, ask for help.
