What Is Going Wrong With My Recordings?

For about a week now whenever I am watching or fast forwarding a recording on my Vu Duo a spinning clock comes on the tv screen for about 5 minutes. I then have to either shutdown or restart the receiver. I have never come across this before and I am wondering what is causing this to happen. I am using Blackhole 1.7.3. The strange thing is that the internal hard drive is 320GB, but I also have the same problem when I switch to a 1TB external hard drive. Both have been initialised and mounted. When I mount one I unmount the other one. The odds of both being on the way out must be high. I have also tried a reflash.
 
@erinville : 1.7.3 is too old for support. Flash to 2.0.8, online update to 2.0.8.1, and try again.
If this will not help, reformat your HDD to ext4 file system.
