Goto 0 (Setting up Motorized Dish)

Vu+ Newbie
Hi All,
I want to setup a motorized dish with my Vu+ solo. I have adjusted receiver>tuner configuration to "Positioner/USALS" but when I go to positioner setup and run "Goto 0" the dish moves to a direction with SNR 0% and BER 0. Does 0 direction always directed to a specific sat and if it's so what is it? Please let me know how I can set the 0 position. Can I adjust the 0 to any satellite I want? Should I manually adjust the dish by hand or from receiver? Is there any way that satellite be founded automatically?

Thank you.

Setting up a motorized dish is not hard with USALS.
You need some things:
- your latitude and longitude position
- your dish and motor must be installed properly

When you have setted up your dish correctly, insert your geo-position into Tuner configuration panel.
When you push "Goto 0" your rotor move the dish at your South and in this position is possible you haven't any sat avaiable but when you tune your box to a channel, the rotor move the dish to the desired sat automatically.

Thank you for your reply,

I had inserted the Longitude & Latitude which I got from GPS. Moreover, I can see channels when I don't use posittioner setting but I should direct the dish toward that sat manually.
I'm not sure that my motor is compatible with USALS and I don't know how I can verify it.
When I select a channel the dish begins to move toward another direction (from 0) and finally stops but the channel finally doesn't come up bcoz of very bad SNR.
Please let me know how I can figure out where problem is and how to solve it.

Thanks a lot.

You should verify your motor and your dish are correctly installed.
This mean your motor is oriented at your south with installation support perfectly ground aligned on N-S and E-W axes.

To verify if your motor is USALS compatible, post the model name here.

Sorry for my bad english....

On my dish's motor "saMsat" has been written and bcoz it's in a bad place I can't see all over of it.

Should the receiver automatically detect Sats or I should do something?
How I can adjust the dish? Is there any specific direction which dish should be toward it in 0-direction (Specific Degree)? is it exactly toward the south?
My dish towards near south when I press "Goto 0" when I select a channel the dish stats to rotate but SNR doesn't raise enough.

Your English is better than mine :D

no the decoder does not recognize the sats, or you use (better) an usuals motor that if correctly pointed/mounted move the dish to the correct position
or you need with a standard motor to store manually every single sat and correct manually the setting list according to it

look with google if you find any info or image with it and report the model
& wait the end of the motorgp :D

looks as this one? if so must be an usals one

The box don't recognize the various SATs but can "only" speak to rotor how to move the dish on West or East.
I will make a little search on the web about your motor but I think is a DisecQ 1.2 rotor and all SATs should be saved manually. I haven't yet done previously because with an USALS compatible rotor correctly pointed to 0°, the box calculate the movement to do for each satellite.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
I found out that when I move manually the direction of the dish a bit, it works fine.
But now the problem is that when I go to a different sat and returns to the first sat I should readjust manually (just a very small rotation)
My question now is: Is there a way to adjust the directions of satellites in receiver so that there is no longer to readjustment for every sat change?
Should I rotate the shaft of Dish (connected to motor) by disassembling it?
Thank you.

you need to know the motor model (or positioning system) before any reply:
2 kind of motors: 2 cfully different setup ;)

Remember when using a rotor one must adjust the angle of the rotor and the dish!
These should be specified in the rotors manual.
Correct way to mount a rotor:

1) Install the rotor perfectly horizontally aligned
2) Rotor positioned at 0 point the entire rotor and dish to the true South
3) Now have the rotor turn to the sat nearest to you geo location(fi 7 East rotor to Eutelsat W3)
4) Gently move rotor and dish to the Sat belonging to your geo position
5) Use a Satmeter to optimize this setting when optimized fasten the rotor's bolts

If there is only a small adjustment needed when you change sats it sounds to me like your Dish/motor is not correctly alligned. if it only a small adjustment you should be able to change your Lat/long slightly to compensate. i.e. if every time you change sats you have to manually adjust 2 clicks east then set your Usuals settings as an extra 0.2 degrees west.

However, the best thing to do would be to correctly allign your dish. This means that when you press the Goto 0 your dish actually points at true south because based on what your describing your are slightly off by a degree or 2
