No, you don't need it, but if want to do it anyway, it won't cause any harm.

|Your Duo 2 probably already has the latest bootloader, as I couldn't load later Blackhole images without updating, a couple of years back.
Just check the message, on the front of the VU+ Duo 2, when you switch off at the rear, and switch back on again.

Thanks. I think it must be there otherwise I would not be able to load latest firmware and the box is just 10 days old

So, you don´t need to do nothing, you have the lastest cfe ( bootloader ).

These last days gave me some software error and restart the vu plus.
I installed clean image and now I want to restore a full backup I have from a few months ago.

Sorry mate, but we only support BlackHole or Open BlackHole images.
You must ask for support in OpenATV board.
