Hello. :)

I am planing to install a small (40-80GB) Usb 2.0 2.5' External power HDD,
mainly for recordings.

What type of format should I use ?
If a recording is Big let's say 16GB, it will be made flawlessly at any format type?
Is there any disadvantage to specific format type ?

If you format your HDD from Solo box, the default FS applied to the Hard disk is EXT3 and it's suggested to maintain this format to grant max performances and reduced problems in case of long records :)

Hello.
I have one more question is ext3 file system slower than ext2 ?
Have you made speed tests ?
From what I have read on the internet
ext2 speed : approximately 7MB/s
ext3 speed : approximately 3MB/s
Is this speed deference occurring at VU+ Solo ?

The Ext3 filesystem is journaled, better in case of accidental power failures, but in a STB this is no relevant feature, you can use ext2 instead of ext3.

I have formatted USB and HDD to ext2.
The creation of 128MB swap file in USB stick was much faster(I think!).
Is there a HDD performance plugin or script to test the HDD speed ?

I initialized the HDD from VU SOLO using the initialize option and it is now formated as EXT3
Why not EXT4 ? I'm using BH 2.0.9
