New user - externel USB tuner for Solo2?

gutted

Vu+ Newbie
Hi! For a bit of background, see my post in VU+ General forum (I can't link to it yet, as forum software prohibits new users attaching URLs, it seems). To briefly introduce myself I'm a brand new user having not even turned my Solo2 on yet... I unpacked it yesterday when the hard drive arrived, and then installed the hard drive. I was about to hook it up and set it running through the initial startup, when I realised that it doesn't have a standard coax (TV aerial) port at the rear, but instead has 2 LNB. This stumped me, and I've been reading/posting here since then.

I do actually have a (very old) USB DVB-T stick - I just dug it out, and it's a Freecom device (no more info yet, but when I get a break from work, I'll power up the Solo2 and see whether the tuner is detected - then will provide details, if device is detected).

The main point of my post, I guess, is to find out more about USB Tuners and which ones are compatible & best/preferred with the Solo2. My requirement is to receive/record standard UK free-to-air broadcasts which I hope would all be unscrambled (BBC, ITV, C4, Channel5, and the various Freeview channels such as BBC News 24, E4, Dave, CBeebies, etc). I also want to be able to view/record HD signals.

And - depending on OS/firmware (?) I want to have a decent EPG where I can set up timers and plan "series link" style recordings. e.g. I might want to record an entire series of a particular programme, so I'd want to do this by pressing pressing a relevant button on the remote. This is probably possible with Enigma, but I'd welcome any recommendations and suggestions for alternatives to the standard OS.

Although I gather such things exist, I am NOT (yet!) interested in anything "dodgy". I do NOT want to "hack" the system to run anything other than standard OS or legitimate firmware, and do NOT want to do anything that violates any user agreement. Hopefully I've not already said anything bad, but if so then I apologise!

Can anyone help me with tuner selection and initial setup of my new Solo2?

Thanks!
Dan.

I'm very happy with Solo2 + BH203 + PCTV (systems) nanoStick T2 (290e),

Although I must restart GUI after powercycle until then tuning failure on T-channels
But who is powercycling/rebooting often.

FTA Both SD and HD work very well,
and zapping time from S-tuner to USB_T-tuner is OK.
Zapping "inside" T-tuner is as fast as S-zap.

But I have not succeeded to get my valid subscription card from my "T" provider to work.
So atm it's inserted in my TV, so I must change input source every now and then
((have tried other places for the subscription card))

But what about a dish..

edit:spelling..

A dish would be ok, I guess. But I hate spending money :) So I 100% don't want a subscription service. I've never really looks into satellite, as I had always assumed it would involve subscription. Can I get a dish without paying for a subscription service? Are there any satellite feeds that are NOT encrypted that I can pick up with the Solo2? (And would any free satellite signal (if such a thing exists) include the normal UK FTA channels (incl. HD channels)?
