Request No service found with AVerTV Volar HD DVBT Tuner

CONOR

Vu+ Newbie
I have the 1.71 image on a VU DUO new box and have connected the AVerTV Volar DVBT tuner to the USB. When I perform an auto scan I get no service found.
One of my stations I'm looking for is at 737.978 Mhz a DTT channel.
I'm In Dublin, Rep of Ireland.
I have tried a manual scan but get the same results.
I cant see any info on the manual scan settings.
The Tuner is recognised in the list of tuners.
Any help available on same issue.

Check your tuner configuration setup.
The Terrestrial provider setup has to be: Europe, Middle East, Africa: DVB-T Frequencies

Thanks for the reply.
The Terrestrial provider is setup to: Europe, Middle East, Africa: DVB-T Frequencies
I was looking to try the manual scan but dont know how to adjust the different settings
Does anyone know.
Has anyone actually tuned one of the AVerTV Volar DVBT with BH image 1.7.1 as the tuner is ticked as working under the USB Tuner section.
I have a roof arial set up and have tuned a sony tv and a philips tv to both digital & analogue channels but dont use the analogue as the digital is superior.
The channels Im trying to tune are the Irish saorview channels RTE1, RTE2, TV3, see http://www.saorview.ie/

Hey Conor,

I had the Volar HD stick and I couldn't get any service either. I bought another Volar, A867 and that's working better, although after 48 hours it craps out, see my post http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/black-hole-vu-duo-1-7-1-server-tuner.4898/page-3.
Apparently things are better in 1.7.2 and I will try later tonight.
Welcome to the DVB-T nightmare...

Thanks for your reply
I tried to see if the tuner worked with the avermedia software supplied and it didnt so I assumed I would not be able to tune it to the Irish freeview terrestial service (it uses mpeg4 as opposed to mpeg2). I then uninstalled the avermedia software and set it up with windows 7 and the windows 7 media player and it works perfectly which shows that Its capable of tuning to the local terrestial channels and I just need the right software on my vu duo.

I do not know the various performances of the DVB-T because I do not use.
But I can confirm AVerTV Volar DVBT tuner working in West EU .

I think this is a specific problem for Rep of Ireland.

Thanks All for your reply,

It's indeed a specific problem for the rep of Ireland. There has been reports of people leaving the scan ON even though it says 0 service found and it eventually finds them but I haven't tried (I sold my A850 stick).
I would recommand getting an WinTV Nova or Aver A867 and of course a Powered USB hub!

Cheers

Try to verify also the content of terrestrial.xml datas about your country :)

vu duo & image 1.7.2 trying to use an avertv volar HD DVBT usb tuner.

My tuner seems to have a similar response to the previous reply.
I know that the irish DTT service uses MPEG4 and the problem might lie there.
I was able to get the tuner working perfectly using windows media centre on win 7
Would anyone from The republic of Ireland have sucessfully used a UBB Tuner on the VU DUO
I would be interested in asking as I would probably then get one of those tuners.

As I said the Aver A867 works fine for me in Ireland. I bought it cheap on Italian Fleebay, it's a SKY DVB-T blue stick. Angelo knows them well :) I live in Wicklow and get good signal even with aerial in attic.
I also read about tweaking the terrestrial.xml, posted here but was for TNT France but same logic should apply. I never tried as I sold the A835 to get A867.
Hope this helps
I also have a Sundtek Media Pro I am not using if you want to try.

Ok you have an A835 stick compatible like my Aver Volar Green HD :)
If you use the latest BH 1.7.2 please install the IPK listed in THIS post (download the one for your box of course!) and reboot your box.
If you have already installed it.... I don't know what happen :(

I have solved my issue with my USB Tuner.
box: VU DUO
USB tuner: averTV volar HD usb tuner
iage 1.7.2
I found a link with manual tuner settings for the irish DTT stations.
they were:
For Irish DTT, do a Full Scan (Tuned) with these settings:
Freq. 738000000
Band. 8Mhz
Inversion. Auto
Constellation QAM 64
LP Coderate 1/2
HP Coderate 2/3
Trans. Mode 8k
Guard Interval 1/32
Hierarchy None

So I didnt need to change the tuner config file at all.

When I used these settings it took about 1 min to show all the channels.
The link to thr web page I found it on is : http://www.jeacle.ie/pub/articles/mythtv/

Thanks for all the help recieved.
