online update

hi guys
just tried to do an online image update from bh.2.0.4,stb said it was downloading then updating and at the end 0 packages updated.. am i missing something?

you can't update online from 2.0.4 to 2.0.5
it needs to be done from usb

Online updates are valid into the same version (to initial revision to A or A to B)

ok thanks i thought i could go from 2.0.4 to 2.05....so whats the point in having online image update when there seems to be a new version every 4-6 weeks but it needs to be installed in flash anyway?

Because sometimes there are minor updates that don't justify a new image just like this latest Rev.A on the present 2.0.5 one. Get it ???

not really,ok rev's to fix small updates but i thought when we moved onto these oe2 based images i could throw away my usb stick ,i must have misread something on 2.0.1 ,thought i read something like every new image would be compatible with previous one and online updates would be possible

If that was said then its clearly been found to be wrong. You don't have to update image, improvements may not be that important to you? If it could be done be simple update to New rev then it would but must be bigger differences than anticipated.

i probably just misread or took it up wrongly...so when we move on from 2.0.4 to 2.0.5 are there still rev's added for 2.0.4 or are older versions just extinct

You must flash 2.0.5 with usb then online update to 2.0.5A

once a new image is out, there's no more online updates for the former ones so as long as you have checked and downloaded all revisions that came out within its life span, that's it . The only way to go forward is to flash the latest image and back up your previous settings which normally are always compatible with new ones. So just keep that usb stick handy
