Output 2160 thru soundbar to TV

Hi All

I have my Solo 4K setup thru a samsung soundbar to my 4K TV.

If i plug my VU directly into the TV, my box can output at 2160p.

If it goes thru the soundbar, i can only set it at 1080p, there is no picture or sound at 2160p.

Anybody have a solution?

Sounds like your soundbar does not support 2160p (or I should say, HDMI 2.0)

It turns out, that the soundbars they sell for their 4K TV's will not pass thru a 2160p signal!!

What a joke, great future proofing there. Bit pissed off to be honest

I am sorry to hear that, and you are correct that is a bit of a joke and I would not be happy either.

However atleast you now know your Solo4K is not at fault.

If the soundbar is not very old, maybe you could return it as it does not do what you want, and put the money towards a proper amp and speaker setup that will support 2160p pass-through.

Hi All,

This is not about the soundbar and 4K. Probably your soundbar supports 4k.

The problem is due to the HDCP
standard. Solo 4K supports the latest HDCP 2.2 standard which unfortunately is not backward compatible with earlier standards (e.g. HDCP 2.0) that were built in devices through 2013, 2014, 2015.
Basically the HDCP 2.2 chip was not available at those years, but late 2015.

HDCP is used for DRM purposes in Sat receivers and in several devices.

You could Google up HDCP coverters that can be hooked on the HDMI cables to solve the problem. They are quite expensive, not sure they worth to buy. Here you can read full article on the issue: hdcp-error dot com.

I run into the same problem with my amplifier.
