Tuner Help

Vu+ Newbie
Hi Guys,

I thought that maybe you could help me to answer one of my biggest doubts about VU+ DUO2.

SITUATION: 3 dishes connected to VU+ DUO2

- TUNER A - MOTOR (at the moment pointing at 28.2e)
- TUNER B - STATIC (always poiting at 13e)
- TUNER C - STATIC (always poiting at 13e)

If I set a timer for BBC WORLD NEWS at 13e, I would hope VU+ DUO2 to use Tuner B or C to record that channel because they are already pointing at 13e.

Do you know which tuner is being used in this situation? B or C? or it could be A even not pointing at 13e?

Any information would be very useful!

You can see what tuner is in use, by using the OSD, there is an A, B, C, D under the signal level, this is the tuner that is in use.

But if you go into setup - system - customise, and then scroll down, you will see the prefered tuner option, you can set this to Auto, A, B or C, then when a recording takes place on 13e it will default to tuner B or C.

However if it were me, I would put the 2 fixed dishes on A and B and the motor on C

Thank you so much for your answer Ev0.

If I set "Prefered tuner: C", VU+ will check tuner C by default as first option. Then, what's the purpose of "Prefered tuner: Auto"? Does "Auto" check tuners in alphabetical order? Checking A first, then B and as last option C?
(maybe that's the reason why you said I should assign MOTOR to the last tuner, so VU+ checks all static dishes first, and if they are not available it moves MOTOR to the selected channel)

Correct, Auto will check each tuner in order from A - C and will use whichever is free (that is able to tune the desired channel).

Then I better place all the static dishes first (A and B), and motor dish at TUNER C (I want VU+ to check all static dishes first and as last option, move the motor). Good to know! I've been checking internet but I didn't find a suitable answer as of yet. Thank you so much!

The previous situation leads me to some questions:

QUESTION 1 - Can I set my order for preferred tuners? (for example: C-A-B). For what you say, it seems I can only set THE preferred tuner (just C) or "Auto" (VU+ checking A-B-C in alphabetical order).

QUESTION 2 - Is there any problem to set QUAD LNB to my MOTOR DISH on VU+ DUO2? Having in mind that VU+ DUO2 has 4 tuners (2 x dual twin tuners), how should I configure the tuners?

All I know so far is I can't set all 4 tuners as USALS because VU+ DUO2 would crash down (this is 1 motor dish with 4 LNB, not 4 motor dishes).

I would set A B C tuners as static dishes (even they are mounted in a motor dish) and D as USALS (that's the tuner I would use to move the dish). Can you tell me if I am right? would VU+ DUO2 work in such situation?

QUESTION 3 - A silly question, but since I'm willing to buy VU+ DUO2 I can't tell... When I set a timer without having any dish pointing at that satellite, when timer is started, motor will move automatically to that satellite position, right? When I'm outside home I can't move the dish manually.

Any experience will be much appreciated!

1) You can only select 1 prefered tuner, so if you set C as perfered, then it would work C, then A then B I think (but I am not 100% sure on that)
2) I don't have a quad lnb to check, but I think the setting would be something like tuner A set to motor, B set to 2nd feed from Motorised lnb, C set to same as B and D set to same as C (if it doesn't have the option of 2nd and 3rd feed from motorised lnb).
3) Yes if you have everything setup correctly, the Duo2 will move your dish to record the program set in the timer.

If using a quad LNB, on a motorized dish, set one Tuner to run the motor, like Tuner A, then you should be able to set Tuner B to second cable from motorized dish, as I have mine set up for a twin tuner.
Hopefully with 4 tuners, you should be able to set them up as third cable, from motorized dish, and fourth cable, from motorized dish.
If not then you should be able to set them up as Equal to.
I only have two tuners, in my VU+ Duo 2, so can't be certain of what settings are available.
