Freezes randomly since update to 1.7.2 and duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip)

Hello :),

I had BH 1.6.2. Everything was just perfect :dance:

Then I decided to upgrade to 1.7.2:
1) upgraded firmware with duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip
2) installed image 1.7.2

Since then I have freezes at random time plus one for 100% after the night.

I saw the thread here:

but no solutions only complaining :(.

Here is what I tried:
1) Downgraded to 1.6.2 - the same problem
2) from (1) concluded that maube firmware "duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip" is "bad for system"
3) haven't found earlier version of "duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip", burned again "duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip" from official site of Vu+ Duo.
4) Installed VIX image - same problem but less, in average only once per day need hard reset.
5) Installed Vu+ Duo image from official site of Vu+duo (the very basic) - the same as (4) problem
6) Installed Swap (via Telnet), followed memory behavior each hour (crond) to /myDir/mem_log
it has a peek 120/130 (90+% in usage) . At boot time it is 90/130. Just a feeling that a peek is on EPG update, but I have no proof :(. Anyway, still freezes at some point.
By the way, swap wasn't used even when I changed swappiness to 100.

Any other ideas? Scripts? (I'm not a pro but familiar with Linux OS)

Did U have any crashes?
-Check your USB stick, if U have one inserted !
-Lower swap to 32!
-Try not to use old settings,,, start from zero!
-Find a plugin/script that free Ram and enforce the usages of swap file memory and use it,,!(make Google search, few solutions are there)

This freeze,,has nothing to do with BH images, it also happens to very few Duo users with other images!

No crashes, just freezes, thus no crash logs :(.

Believe me I did all possible permutations with USB inserted. without, large swap, small swap, without swap, many channels, few channels, etc.
I did everything to detect the problem.
The fix is usually easy.

And of course as I mentioned I tried from the very zero even without .....cam.....

Is there any way to downgrade from "duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip" (what is the previous version?) ?
I would like, at least for checks, to downgrade "duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip" and downgrade from kernel 3.1.1 let's say to bh1.6.2 when it worked without problems

i have same that problem duo cfe 3.0 and bh 1.7.2 freez at night on standbay. my vu+duo is 2 mounts old.
 
ALMOST SOLUTION FOUND:

using crond (crantabs) the following script reduces the freezes down to 1 time per 3-4 days.

create file:
/var/spool/cron/crontabs/root (actully it can be anyname or place if you run crond with -c parameter)
put the following line:
*/12 * * * * sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

rund crond from init scripts in /etc/ for example like this:
/usr/sbin/crond -c /var/spool/cron/crontabs

reboot your system, make sure that after reboot crond is running
ps | grep crond
should give you lienes
498 root 3200 S /usr/sbin/crond -c /var/spool/cron/crontabs
21518 root 3012 S grep cron

i put that line in the cron manager and when i ftp into vu its in the BH and the Root file in cron but i put it with a 2 instead of a 12 as my vu freezes after about 2 mins rebooted and it still froze after 2 mins :(
 
That`s strange, probably there is something running that uses a lot of memory then or you`ve a problem.
You use a lot epg providers or perhaps picons in the flash?
What is your vu for type.
 
its a vu+ duo with a 500gb hdd picons are download of bh server so guess there on hdd and i have a 256mb swap file running and cross epg running just for sky uk only catseye channel list of bh server and thats it if i runn bh 1.6.6 or lower on same setting runs 100% no freeze but put 1.6.7 to 1.7.3 and i get the freeze on same setting only thing i can see diff is the 3.11 kernel im lost

angelofsky is there another way i can get the info you need as i do not own a good enough digi camera to get good pics of main board i could probably lend one but will take a few days to get
 
hi my sgs2 phone took a nice closeups of the main board so here it is hope this helps and if you look at the link below this it 100% what my vu+ duo is doing its about a year and half old

Good news is your box looks genuine to me.

The bad news is we can't help with your problem, as it's 99.9% certain to be a problem with a ******* which we do not support and thererfore talk of them is banned on this forum.
 
EvO ok i understand this but if it help dose not matter what is running on the box to make my orig sky card run it will freeze on all versions

thanks anyways guess i will stay at 1.6.6 and just keep trying updates as they come out
