No, you did not have different indications.

Then there are slight variations but the core of the updating process is in the two commands "opkg update" and "opkg upgrade", that you can send one by one or altogether or along with some others (like init or reboot, but they are not indispensable).
I advice you to save in a text file all the most useful linux command for telnet/putty/whatsoever otherwise you'll be asking the same things each time.
