Wlan manager and ad-hoc access point

Hi all,

I have an issue to connect VUPLUS SOLO with WIFI access point. When I select an ROUTEUR WIFI access point with WEP encryption, I get connection without any issue. But When I try to connect to an ad-hoc wifi access point (I share my internet connection from my phone with an application that enable an ad-hoc access point), the vusplus can't connect to it.

For information, I can connect to the wifi ad-hoc access point from another phone and from my laptop witjout any issue.

Could someone help please.

thanks in advance.

is there any option where to set the wlan type to ad-hoc or infrastructre?
In your box, you can try to make a Wifi-network search using the "Scan WLan" option in Wireless Lan Setup plugin and if your ad-hoc network is found, try to connect from that panel.
I think the wifi driver into Vu+ boxes can adapt automatically their functions in accordance with the Wifi network found but I haven't tested it because I've only Infrastructure network avaiable

Thanks for the reply.

Already done!

The Scan found the ad-hoc AP, but I can't connect to it.

When I see the wlan status: all information are correcte (AP name, baud rates... but it said not associeted).

NB: The ad-hoc AP can be done by a laptop having wifi connector.

Can you try without encryption?

The adhoc wifi AP did'nt have encryption So I put encryption to no. but without success.

I found the file /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat

There some wireless configuration in this file.
I change the following parameter:
NetworkType=Adhoc

it was before changing like this:
NetworkType=Infra

I restart the vuplus. Check the net after restarting but still not connected.

The wireless adapter is zd1211wr (when I try to confgure network from menu I saw this zd1211rw adapter). I don't if this RT2870STA.dat is used with all wireless drivers or not.

Thanks for helping.

The file RT2870STA.dat is used only by the corresponding driver.

Thanks angel for your help. waiting for your feedback.

From my side, I do some search in unix documentation for wireless networking. I found some parameters.
In the file /etc/network/interfaces the wlan0 interface (used for wireless) use the wpa_supplicant associeted with config file /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf like this:

##########################
# /etc/network/interfaces file
##########################
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
pre-up wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -B -Dnl80211
post-down wpa_cli terminate

So I decide to read more about wpa_supplicant.conf file and I found some information in unix doc howto configure this file for ad-hoc wireless networking.

I modify the file /etc/wpa_suppclient.conf like this to manage the ad-hoc AP:

ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="C5-03_JoikuSpot_9CCAD92B564F"
mode=1
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-NONE
pairwise=NONE
group=TKIP
psk=""
}
# mode: IEEE 802.11 operation mode
# 0 = infrastructure (Managed) mode, i.e., associate with an AP (default)
# 1 = IBSS (ad-hoc, peer-to-peer)
# Note: IBSS can only be used with key_mgmt NONE (plaintext and static WEP)
# and key_mgmt=WPA-NONE (fixed group key TKIP/CCMP). In addition, ap_scan has
# to be set to 2 for IBSS. WPA-None requires following network block options:
# proto=WPA, key_mgmt=WPA-NONE, pairwise=NONE, group=TKIP (or CCMP, but not
# both), and psk must also be set.

I restart the box, but still not connected.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. If someone can test ad-hoc wireless connecting with enigma2!

Can you tell me how you tether your android device to vu +, I have galaxy s and vu + uno with bh 1.7.2?

You will have to share your internet connection in your galaxy (in HTc it's called "share internet connection"). After that you have to setup your vu+ box to search for wifi access point (you will see your galaxy wifi access point). you have to setup the securtiy (WEP I think...) and you will get connected. The android setup an INFRASTRUCTURE WIFI AP. You will not have any issue I think. But the symbian S60 phones setup an ADGOC WIFI AP and there was my issue since VU+ can't connect (till now) to ADHOC AP.

I did exactly the same, in my case Galaxy S has option Tether via USB, but my Vu+ Uno Would not recognize my Galaxy S as a wifi adapter.

am I missing any updates need to be installed in my BH 1.7.3?

You will need driver for galaxy S! but I don't think you can't find it (driver for Galaxy S wifi for enigma2). So you have to search in your galaxy options where to share you internet connection by WIFI (it can be called router, wifi internet sharing....). For my Nokia I downlad an application to do it. it give me the option to share my Nokia intrent connection by creating a WIFI ad-hoc access point (like a router except the ad-hoc). I can see from my vu+solo (with WIFI USB adapter of course) the NOKIA WIFI ACCESS POINT but can't connect to it due to the ad-hoc .

For Humorator:
===========

I post my issue (the same message at Vu+Support Forum). I don't know if the same team works for the 2 forums: vuplus community and vu+support.
I post it in the other forum to have more people raeding the message in case someone can help.

Sorry if it was considered as crossposting ! For me I explained why I do it.
