...I'm intended to move from a Dream Multimedia box over to a VU+ box in the next few weeks therefore I'm on the lookout...
If you intend to change your DM800SE or DM8000 for Vu+, the best choice for today is Solo2. It is available in the market and there is the well developed software (Linux Enigma2) for it. As far as Duo2, you should wait for a few months and prepare additional 300 Euros. The PrismCube will appear even later, but you should take into account that it is not based on Enigma2 and the development of the comparable software will need a lot of time.

I will wait for the Duo2 as I want a box as future proof as possible, and I won't be going for PrismCube.
thanks for the suggestion of the Solo2, it really is a great box and I would have gone for it if the Duo2 was going to be delayed any further but I'm thinking I might be able to wait till mid July.
I'm currently running a DM800 (no SE).
I've been using DMM boxes as far back as my original DM720 running Enigma 1, but they have slowed development and not kept pace.

The reason for the upgrade is due to my current box becoming unstable due to too many hardware hacks I've carried out on it.

If I wanted to wait then I would go for www_dot_e2bmc.com which I think would offer more than the PrismCube. It is an E2 Box with XBMC built in from start, which means no need to choose between XMBC and E2. People can have them both, because of this I think that unless PrismCube does something really amazing and very soon the competition will be all over it.

I'm banking that Duo2 will have an XMBC plugin before long. Infact if I was DMM I would be coding one right now ready to release to try and undermine my competition.

i think xbmc with enigma2 is a nonsense. It is only a way to limit xbmc with e2 that cannot manage 3d graphic enigne.
Prismcube is better because include stb in xbmc and in its graphic engine.

Main chipset for e2bmc looks the same as PrismCube, however without full specs no one can ever tell.
As it stands PC will be the first true XBMC SetTopBox. for us customers all this competition can only mean greater choice and cheaper prices.

Back in the day DMM has the market to themselves then VU+ came along and shook things up, now prices are falling while features are rising.

I think i was not clear.
The chipset is not a problem the problem is enigma2.

+1 - Yes I agree E2 is beginning to get and look dated.
But this is due backwards compatibility support for older boxes.

Can't wait to see customer or DRDish reviews for the newer PrismCube.

But it works bad and it is unuseful. You will have not a full XBMC system power but only XBMC + old and unsatisfactory e2 system and gui.
In my peronal opinion only a badly collage

i have one of the best media play box in the market, the Med1000x3d( 200€), theres also other models med600x3d (140€ ) perfect playback of 23,976hz and 24,00hz ISO, MKV, etc etc , support dTS-hd and true HD 7.1 etc etc , with 3D iso, 3D MVC, 3DSBS, 3D TB, 3d streaming , jukebox and control with ipad or iPhone.

ive used xbmc in the past, but the lack of proper remote and frametrate bugs, force me to move to dedicated media player.
i have a ton of questions about the rugby, based on my previous experience with media players.

My library is on the NAS, the movies are BD ripped in lossless about 50gb each movie

1- will it play files 50GB ISO , MKV, BDMV, or m2ts in 24p/1080p

2- wiil it play files ISO , MKV, BDMV or m2ts 60p/1080p ?

3- will it support hard drive in format ext3, hfs+, ntfs, exfat

4- will it suport 24/50/60 playback

5- will it support playback of true 23,976 and 24,00hz

6- will able to stream 2D by samba at least 70mbps (8,75MB/s)

7- will be able to stream 2D by NFS at least 70mbps (8,75MB/s)

8- will support passthorugh of hd audio like DTS-HD and TrueHD ?

9- will suport DMR, DMC, DMS ?

10- will support divx (since now is licensed) ?

11- will support what is called by different manufactures (native support, original resolution, source direct ) ?

12- does the prime cube ruby its tottaly dependent of XBMC media playback support ?

13- will it come with HDMI 1.4 ?

I follow a little longer this topic
where there is a lot of misinformation
of those who declared themselves knowledgeable about project
They even know the release date and price of something that is not even there.

For me totally wrong.
This leads to questions which are far from reality.
At least at this moment.

My advice Just wait and see
all in good time.

@couto27: I invite you to check Android version on XBMC homepage.

that doenst anwser to my questions.

the questions is if the hardware support some important features or not ?
im just trying to understand whats-in-the-box, it saves some trouble to buy it, open and test and return

13- it was mention a few pages back that it comes with ARM cortex 9, what revision ?

Revision A - rOpo
Revision B - rOp1
Revision C - ripO
Revision D - r2pO
Revision E - r2p0
Revision F - r2p2
Revision G- r3pO
Revision H- r4pO
Revision I- r4p1

since i cant post links it gone be long posts :)

@couto27: there is a public prismcube homepage. You can find there a lot of informations about Ruby.

thanks, i take a look at the chipset PNX8496-1250DMIPS and the specs and the support arent famous for a XBMC player set-top-box

Maybe some of you guys arent familiar with xbmc media player, that support for every type of files and containers , hd audio, jukebox ISO files, bdmv m2ts, streaming etc, ussually the choice of hardware is at least hdmi 1.4 from pc/mac users.
The prisme ruby in paper is being far from being a xbmc player , but its seen more like a limited media player

According to the specs of the chip

hdd support - read/write fat32 - this means users will be limited to 4gb size movies files
- read only NTFS - this will cause plenty of limitation in xbmc media player , like donwload some subtitles to hdd, set movie watched etc etc etc.

hd audio - trueHD to be confirmed
dts-hd to be confirmed

Media type supported - mkv, avi , mp4 (like i said before, its a limited xbmc)

hdmi 1.3 this is 2013 and still using old technology, that means, No 3D support, no ethernet channel , no ARC, and no 4K support , at least i hope this 1.3 hdmi version support (supports deep color, with 30, 36 and 48 bit xvYCC, sRGB, or YCbCr

I appreciate all the effort envolved in creating this device, but with this hardware will be very limited to match cheaper media player on the market, based on android and using this same hardware,

Like i mention in my initial post the mede600X3D (140€) a dedicated media player will due everything required.

looking forward to see the second revision of this media player with new hardware.
good luck

Got a med600x3d and got a lot of issues with it: old divx can't be read, eos 650 canon movies stuttered on network play, need a lot of 3rd party tools and work to get the jukebox working, so going back to popcorn a-400 with better codecs possibilities. Actually no player best than a-400 for 2d. For topbox, Vu+ Solo2 is the best actually.

divx is licensed , is no longer supported in v 2.0.0, neither in a400 or dune base 3d. Good luck with a400 and the spinning wheels.

......

That specs are not updated and related to an old prorotype hardware.
And many features are not depending from chipset but will be added later exactly like for e2 recievers that had not all at the beginning.
For this reason i am repeating that you have to wait and look because like at e2 beginning the starting of a new project requires time and support.

Sorry but old divx play fine on a-400 and no hd content upscaling better on a-400. Sure others issues remaining at the moment. No god player exists. You have to choose your priorities,
