VU+ Duo 4K

Disappointed if the final model will really have only 1 card reader.
Seem like an artificial way to keep the Ultimo 4K still better...

@dyablo
Features....VU+DUO 4K
1 CI
2 Card readers
-------------
VU+DUO2 - VU+Ultimo4K
2 CI
2 Card readers

I had read this:
- Duo 4K PROTOTYPE ANGA2018: 2 CI and 2 CR
- “real” final Duo 4K in Fall 2018: 2 CI and 1 CR

as can be read also in this leaflet:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LU1-yMEJhuI2V2ztfg3Tli4eMMWBhwXL/view

So, it’s fair to say a lot of people in this hobby disregard CI slots and are interested in CR slots, for reasons that cannot be discussed, but that’s a fact.

2 CR slots for some people are the “bare minimum” to have 1 public television on sat (tivusat, SRG, etc. depending on your country) and 1 pay television on sat/dvb-t.

The Duo 4K with 2 CR could be the “ultimate” Vu+ of the “modern age” (compact decoders with 2.5” hdd). Unfortunately it looks like it will have 1 CR so we still will have to use USB Smartmouses. Or buy a big, fat Ultimo 4K.

In the end, there’s no big advantage in the Duo 4K against the thinner Uno 4K SE provided you also buy
- a good powered 7 port usb hub
- a pair of good dvb-t2 usb tuners (1 x Turbo + 1 x Sundtek/HMPcombo, or 2 x Sundtek/HMPcombo), or even 4 (except the Turbo, that Vu+ hardcoded to brick your boot sequence with any image if you use more than 1, for some reason)
- an Easymouse2 USB smartmouse so you have 2 total CR

and when the day finally comes that Vu+ releases a pluggable dvb-s multistream/T2mi tuner, you just plug it in the Uno 4K SE in place of the current FBC dvb-S2.

Who’s this Duo 4K for with just 1 CR and no multistream in 2018?
I hope that this fall
1) they actually keep 2 CR like in the ANGA2018 prototype
2) they introduce as a surprise the multistream tuner and maybe now they’re fixing the last minute hardware/software issues

It just says dvb-s2x, doesn’t mean it support multistream.
On the other hand, even on the Zero 4K specifications probably it just says “dvb-s2x”, so there’s hope.
But if they’re building a new pluggable dvb-s2x+MiS+T2-MI fbc tuner, why didn’t they also announce it as a stand alone accessory for Ultimo4K/Uno4K/SE/Solo4K?

Well, probably because you can replace old tuners with the new S2X (but not for Solo 4K )

ZERO 4K has Multistream tuner.

Yes that is exactly what I was pointing out.
It DOES have MiS.
BUT it’s not written in Vu+ specifications.
So maybe, hopefully, the same will be true for Duo 4K.
In the Orbitadigital store they already have the new tuner FBC DVB-S2X.
Waiting for the comparison tests with the Zero4K.
Chat with the technical service and for the moment without answer,
In a few days I will call you again.
The new tuners FBC DVB-SX2 are identical to the old FBC DVB-S2, the difference is the chip they have.

For this money I would finally expect some alternative digital output for tv. On my Duo2 my HDMI went out of operation for the 2nd time in 5 years :(

Yes, because a brand new project and alternative to such a spread standard will work by any chip or any electronics and it will be eternal, won't be? :D

Very dissapointing that these new 4k boxes do not support HD sound streaming in Mediaplayer. I need a seperate streaming box that support these formats to get full use of my sound system

Any news about MULTISTREAM (not s2x, they are not the same) pluggable sat tuners from Vu+ coming this fall?

The wait is tiring...Octagon has multistream, Dreambox has multistream, only Vu+ lacks multistream...unless you use an overheating usb tuner from TBS and a particular image...
