Duo / DuoLE Vu-duo is Dead

Try a different USB stick, format it to FAT 32, on your PC, load the latest Black Hole version, for your receiver, and try installing it, as per the guides.
Please make a note of the installation progress then post the results, with more details of when the receiver hangs.

i try many usb stick but not working
my receiver just boot with official image ver5.0
with another oficcial image not working

If you still have the official image then you haven't loaded Black Hole.
Are you following the instructions correctly?

Unzip the vuplus folder to the root directory of a USB Pen Drive.
Power off Vu+ Duo with switch on the back
Insert USB Pen Drive into the USB socket on Vu+ Duo
Power on Vu+ Duo
Image will auto install from the USB Stick.
Look at the display on the receiver, it'll display when the update has finished.
Remove the USB Stick
Power off receiver.
Power on the Receiver

The image is now installed.

Hi All,

First of all my BIG Thanks to everyone who share their experiences of this wonderful piece of equipment.....after 2.5 years of use,it died few days ago....I followed the advice to replace C807/220uF and VOILA!!! My VU+Duo resurrected from the dead:-) 80cents spent...I actually bought 220uF/50V because 12V is not available.Soooooo happy!

For those whose duo is still not working after replacing c807 here is the solution.

View attachment 7601

If you don't change c807 on time, and if you play and experiment with bricked duo with power switched on, the regulator (No3 on photo) will die. On duo it's marked Pz 1021ai and universal name isAOZ1212, there are 3 exactly the same regulators on duo (see photo), but note that all are outputing different voltages, this is from memory (measure before changing anything):
1. gives 2.5v
2. gives 1.25v
3. gives 1.15v

If you can find a spare (which is extremely difficult) just replace it and duo will work like new.

And if no spare is available don't worry there is a solution. Here is what we did:
We found manual schematic for DIY regulator that converts 5v to 1.25, and we made it
Took out the working regulator from position 2 on photo and istalled it into position 3 in place of defect regulator.
We manualy injected 1.25v from theDIY regulator directly into the output pins of 2nd regulator and whouala the DUO works like new.

Now the cause of this is simple, prolonged exposure to heat makes condensator c807 break, which can than break regulator. The position of c807 is very near HDD which creates heat especially if used extensively. Or if you have fan problems this can reduce the amount of air circulating which can be also cause. Or simply the batch of condensers used in some duo mainboards is not so good. In my case, it was after 2 and a half years of extensive use. And the new condenser costs just 5eurocents and the regulator costs 1 euro.

You're wrong, because the proper voltages are:
2.5V
1.25V
1.3V (1.33V before the choke L804 and after choke 1.28V)

My solution is similar to those you mentioned with the exception that I used STEP-DOWN DC-DC converter from scrapped A/D board from LCD monitor with a IC FP5003 (PWM controller) and P-MOSFET APM4435 (SI4435).
This inverter was originally designed to convert from 12VDC to 5VDC, but FP5003 can work from 3.3V in input, so connect this converter to 5V line in this satellite receiver is not a problem and made eg. 1.25V via changes in value resistors divider (voltage divider). But also 2.5V or any voltage from 1V to 4V.
see photo scrapped board lcd monitor.

So I made modify this converter and now operates with input 5V to 1.25V and fried U801 AOZ I replaced IC from original 1.25V line.

This is how it looks now in the satellite receiver.

Can somebody help me my vu-duo only shows a red light and i cannot flash the box not by USB and not with the VU-Util tool neither can i use putty

Thanks in advance
open the box and change electrolitic condeser c 807 this is a typical problem ,it happen to me change the condeser and work it againvu2duo repair.jpg

DUO In post 110 motherboard is a Clone, See Vertical PCB Top Left of image compered to original PCB shown in other image in this thread?????

I want to inform anyone who had the 'red light' problem about my situation..
First time was before about 2 years..the problem was C807 and after replacing it everything worked fine till before a week..
This time the problem was about 2 nearby capasitors in the power supply..By replacing them too, problem fixed again and everything seems to work fine again..
Unfortunately,i am very concerned about all this, cause giving enough money to buy Vu+duo, didnt expect such problems!

vu+ dont make the capacitors...but I expect use top grade...lol

I've changed the C 807 capacitor with a 220 uF 25v yesterday and till now there is no problem. thanks.......thanks a lot.I hope it remain another 2 year working.

Found this posted on another forum for those that can't fix their 'red led only problem'
just replace C807 220uF 16v with a new one or with 330uF 16v on the motherboard
Haven't tried this myself yet but will tomorrow.
Can someone explain why only the C 807 - 220uF 16v is dead in many Vu Plus Duo?

No, I think that in that Vu Plus Duo must have another capacity(much more) wich are or not are damaged.
Or, C 807 is wrong capacity since project(design), and it was necessary mount first time another tipe of capacity(330 micro) or voltage support(25 V no 16 V), or another quality for this capacity.Whay ONLY this capacity is damaged in this machine?
Would be a wrong quality of all capacitors mounted in this machine?
When this capacity will be damaged and the Vu will be on power much more time, will damage an integrated circuit, too.So, we can inform the producer to think about this and rezolve it.
Sorry for my poor english.....

Capacitors fail on most electrical equipment and although some are because of cheap components most of it is caused by heat damage. The better the capacitor though the longer they usually work. The producer ie vu doesn't need to fix problem now as they are classed as old model now and no longer in production. hth

Hi all, repaired one of these boxes before with C807 fix, working great. My other box sadly blew U801 (hole in IC)

I've sourced & replaced this component but only get 0.7v on the component next to it, any ideas? I've measured pin 5 which gets 12von regulator 1 & 2 (untouched) annd I get 8-9v on regulator 3 that I replaced ?

Image of replacement;

Thanks!

Thanks for the information in this post. I have fixed my Vu+ duo after replacing the components in the Mother Board and the PSU
